E-bike batteries should only be repaired by a specialist!

The battery contains the power that the bike needs for electric driving. If this breaks, it can be expensive. If a repair is no longer possible, a new battery must be installed. However, it is often tempting to try to take care of the old man on your own to repair. Yes, you shouldn't. If you use the battery of your e-bike according to the instructions, you can usually enjoy cycling with an e-bike for many years. But if the battery fails, then you should unprofessional repairs urgently refrain on your own initiative. If you try, you not only lose any warranty claims, you also risk a dangerous battery fire. With some models, you can check the battery status directly on the battery select. If this is not possible, you can visit a bicycle workshop that has a special diagnostic device available to have the data read out. The result of the so-called SOH evaluation (state of health) then provides information about the remaining capacity of the battery. The most common reason for a defective e-bike battery is usually incorrect storage during longer breaks, which occur over the winter, for example. A state of charge of between 30 and 70 percent is recommended if the battery of the e-bike will not be used for a long period of time. Also you should go for one dry storage and Temperature from 0 to 20 degrees.

Reasons why batteries die

As soon as the battery delivers less and less range and power when charged, there can be several reasons. Important factors are, for example, the weight of the rider, the selected riding mode, the tire pressure and any omissions in the general maintenance of the bike. A defect in the motor bearing of the electric drive can also be the cause, but this is rarely the case. Before you consider buying a new battery, you should first check whether warranty claims can still be asserted for the defective battery. Since original batteries are usually an expensive affair, one quickly gets the idea of purchasing a battery from a third-party manufacturer, for example from the Internet. However, you should always play it safe and use a manufacturer-recommended and original battery to use. It is difficult for laypersons to see to what extent a third-party product in terms of application, Safety and longevity can be considered. And it is not uncommon for such batteries to be broken again after a short time.
