Are we honest! Also the umpteenth Peugeot's attempt to stink against the VW Golf GTI does not seem to come true. Even the legendary GTi abbreviation what is of no use and the powerful 272 PS 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder doesn't even help the 308 GTi achieve the registration numbers of a Golf GTi MK7. The prerequisites are certainly given. Almost fully equipped from the factory, bucket seats, red decorative stitching and applications on the inside and a competitive price of 34.950 €. And the look on the outside is anything but boring because with the two-tone special paintwork "Coupé Franche", the distinctive bumpers front and rear and a right / left exhaust system, the French have tried everything possible.
But maybe they should have just proceeded more consistently and aggressively! Maybe like the Italian Touring Car driver Massimo Arduini who, with the help of his racing team, created a one-off piece of an 308 GTI in a widebody-look as a counterpart to the Oettinger Golf 500R could act. At least regarding the look! Because of the at least 500 PS of the Oettinger 500R, the 308 GTI is far away. But he has a little more to offer with a new intercooler and a special sports exhaust system and currently comes on 302 PS. The most noticeable change, however, is the widebody kit already mentioned.
Discreetly inspired by the look of the 308 TCR racing car, there was a completely new design for the front bumper and fender flares perfectly integrated into the body. The widenings have something of the style of the RS models from Audi and lead in our opinion to a truly harmonious overall picture. The rear apron is also much wider, and of course the side panels on the right and left have been adapted to the new look, and the rear doors are fitted with matching attachments. Again, everything looks like a piece and not as extreme as the set of accessory body kits from Liberty Walk & Co.
Only the diffuser integrated into the rear apron looks a bit too huge as we think. At least the currently installed tailpipes are way too small - even two stovepipes would look lost in the two large recesses. As far as we know, the one-off even got a weight reduction to 1.155 kg and, obviously, a completely new setup for the chassis. A set of 9 × 18 inch racing rims in white were installed, perfectly suited for the racetrack Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 Tires are fitted. There was also a fully adjustable coilover suspension from KW and a tight-fitting Brembo brake system with 340 mm large slotted brake discs.
Small details like the "Peugeot 308 RS Replica 001" badge in the interior and the 308 Arduini lettering on the outside round off the impressive and unique project. Unfortunately, we do not have any more details about the 308 single piece at the moment. If we receive information about changes that have not been made before us, there will of course, as always, be an update for this report.
