To the current IAA 2019 (Public Days: 12. to 22. September) BMW has brought the Concept 4 with "Forbidden Red" paintwork as a stylistic outlook on the successor to the F32 / F82. The new model is expected next year. At 4 meters in length, the BMW Concept 4,78 is almost 14 centimeters longer than the current 4 Series Coupe. For the 5, only 15 cm are missing. Pretty big ... And wWhat are the highlights? In any case, the mighty double kidney based on classics like the BMW 328 or the 3.0 CSi. It even outshines many Audi Singleframe grille and is, as well as the 7 facelift, once quite getting used to. The thought of a completely black vehicle with a black kidney is still somehow interesting as we find. At first, the G11 / G12 facelift shocked us more.

Especially cool we find the second level in the kidney with plastic cladding. She wears, as well as the T-shaped air intakes left and right, the number 4. These are joined by extremely flat and inwardly employed four-eye headlights and at the rear there is a powerful diffuser. All in all, a nice vehicle that reminds us a little bit of various drawings of the planned Alfa Romeo GTV (2020). The elegant silhouette of the nearly 1,40 meter high and almost 1,90 meter wide concept stands out especially with the long hood and the BMW typical short overhangs. The LED light elements of the already mentioned double headlights are this time not behind clear glass covers, but present themselves in three dimensions in small body recesses.

A nice gimmick but certainly not for the series! The flank of the Concept 4 is visually very "tense". It combines taut surfaces with modeled wheel arches and the classic hip bead is characterized by two lines. On the other hand, the exterior mirrors, which seem to grow out of the side trim and use polished aluminum instead of glass, are not very close to series production. We find the stern very successful again. Here you can see three-dimensional taillights in the typical BMW L-shape ("heartbeat optics"), which are a continuation of the known taillights from the G20. And we would also like to mention the big Alus. There are 21-inch rims with a three-dimensional structure and five-spoke highly polished spokes.

For this purpose, the recessed surfaces are ground matt. Less spectacular then but the technology under the sheet. The BMW 4er Coupe comes in large part with the technology of the current 3er, which uses the flexible CLAR platform for rear-wheel drive vehicles. We do not have to talk about the assistance systems in the form of front-collision warning systems with braking intervention, lane detectors and the latest infotainment systems with touchscreen screens.
