Even fatter - Mercedes GLS (X 166) with Bodykit by Renegade Design

Reading time 4 Min.

It is the flagship of the Mercedes-Benz SUV fleet. The Mercedes GL of the X 2012 series, which has been produced since 166 and has been offered since 2015 under the name "GLS". It is already the second generation of the GL and technically closely based on the M-Class (W 166). The luxury SUV is produced in the US Mercedes-Benz plant in Tuscaloosa and this model is particularly popular in Russia, among others. And that's where the team is from Renegade Design resident.

You are already familiar with the spectacular Widebody Infiniti QX70, the  Jeep Grand Cherokee Tyrannos or even that Widebody GLE SUV as well as a beefy X5M. A GLS has now been presented on the company's website that is also in the hands of Renegade Design guessed and unmistakably the handwriting of the tuner carries. Also for him one has specially modeled a body kit but unlike the vehicles mentioned above, the dimensions of the huge SUV are not stretched further, which means this no Widebody kit is used.

But even without much widened fenders, the GLS can be seen. For him, a bulky front bumper was developed which is somewhat similar to the optional AMG look, but has even larger air intakes. Integrated into the bumper is a discreet front spoiler that is offset in color on the presentation vehicle and has a grid in the classic honeycomb design. And also a new rear bumper has been developed and this comes with an extremely eye-catching and sporty diffuser which includes a central rear fog light.

In addition, this GLE has received an integrated sports exhaust system with four round tailpipes. Only at second glance, you can see the new side skirts are provided with chic Trittleisten and round off the side part. The highlight of the body kit is undoubtedly the new bonnet which comes along with three extremely powerful bulges. In the middle sits a large power dome and right and left of it also markedly shaped vaults.

More was not done on the Stuttgart SUV and in our opinion more is not necessary at all. The components highlight the GLS in exactly the right places without attracting negative attention with an excessively extreme look. If we get more details about the changes, there will of course, as always, be an update for this report.
