Can you still remember the Mitsuoka Galue with HKS compressor recall? A vehicle of Mitsuoka Motor Co. Ltd. which somehow makes Rolls-Royce for poor people with extremely getting used to. And vehicles like the Ryugi, the Viewt or the Orochi are no better examples from Mitsuoka. The tuner and manufacturer now had an idea that we like much better. A body kit with a name Mitsuoka rock star that turns the MX-5 Roadster into a Corvette C2. At least almost ... The handy, purist and quite affordable MX-5 receives a retro dress that can really be seen. Of course, even a standard MX-5 looks good, but the Corvette-look Roadster looks much better. The Japanese company has been tailoring self-designed bodies for years on the production vehicles of large manufacturers. But this time the look is by no means questionable or whimsical as we find.

Under the model name "Rock Star" resembles the MX-5 after the metamorphosis of a Corvette C2 Sting Ray built by 1963-1967. The changes are extremely extensive. From the MX-5 actually only the doors and the mirror caps remain. Dagen is the front apron, the headlights, the fenders, the complete rear including the boot lid and of course the hood with the large distinctive air intakes from Mitsuoka. In the interior Mitsuoka then left the courage but very quickly. Although there are independent leather packages and various ornaments, in the direction of C2 the interior is not trimmed in any way. Only the Mazda logo has been removed from the baffle of the steering wheel. And under the bonnet, nothing works. There is the 1.5 Skyactiv G-132 four-cylinder with at least 132 PS and matching the body kit is also on request for the top model of the RF 2.0 Skyactiv G-184 with 184 PS.

But of course this is no comparison to the Corvette C2 with a 6,5-liter V8, which even then enabled acceleration to 100 km / h in just 4,8 seconds. Here the owners either have to continue to live with the 6,8 seconds of the production vehicle (184 hp) or they invest a few more euros and modify the engine, which has been available since summer of this year. Incidentally, the conversion price corresponds roughly to that of a new MX-5, because Mitsuoka estimates 4.688.200 yen according to the website for a complete vehicle, which corresponds to approx. 40.000 €. A maximum of 50 copies are planned for the 50th company anniversary and we hardly believe that any will actually make it to the only two European Mitsuoka dealers. Pity!
