Classic with 82 PS E-UP Drive: The VW E-Beetle 2019!

At the upcoming IAA 2019 (Thu, 12. Sept. 2019 - Sun., 22. Sept. 2019) Volkswagen is next to the ID. 3 present another electric vehicle. And no less than the best-selling car in the world. And that's not the Ford T-model, of course it's the VW Beetle! Volkswagen is thus bringing another copy to the big electric offensive. In cooperation with the partner company eClassics Vertriebs GmbH (Renningen - Malmsheim) the legend is given, as standard 1302 or -1303, the drive train of the electric small car E-Up with 60 kW / 82 PS and a maximum of 190 Newton meters of torque. However, this now finds its place under the front hood. And the conversion is even officially with VW's blessing! The regime takes over Volkswagen Group Components which is also responsible for the production of the one-speed gearbox in Kassel.

82 PS E-UP drive in the VW Beetle

The built-in electric drive accelerates by just under four seconds to 50 km / h and after about 8 seconds Tempo 80 is reached. The maximum speed should now be about 150 km / h. The weight increases at the same time but at about 1.280 kilograms. Rebuilt the beetle at E-Classics from Renningen near Stuttgart, where the CCS chargeable 14 lithium-ion modules of the 36,8 kilowatt-hour battery are also installed. They are to allow a range of over 200 kilometers and are installed in the subsoil. If the vehicle is recharged, then in about 60 minutes enough juice for another 150 kilometers on board. VW provides the liquid-cooled power electronics, plus the heating system and an adapter that connects all new cables with the original Beetle cable harness.

ATS wheels in silver or Fuchs Porsche rims

And of course, the suspension is changed and an improved disc brake system with steel flex lines of a retrofit pulls into the beetle. This is necessary in any case, especially in view of the extra weight. Regarding the rims, you can opt for ATS wheels in silver or you can rely on classic rounds in the Fuchs Porsche design. There are a few more details such as contemporary headlights with LED daytime running lights and new taillights can be installed. And on this basis even a subsequent electrification of other historic vehicles is conceivable. Conceivable would be the Bulli and even the 356er Porsche and you get the modular E-drive kit (MEB) installed could even more power and range can be achieved. And last but not least, even complete retrofitting is feasible.

At least 40.000 € costs the fun

Only the price spoils the fun a bit. A fully restored vehicle ready to drive costs € 99.000 and if you bring a “proper” standard 1302 or -1303 over to E-Classics, almost 50.000 will still be due for the conversion. The cheapest option is to get a Beetle body and have it married with the new electric chassis from a certified partner company of E-Classics. But even then you should set aside at least € 40.000.
