Chevrolet Corvair Coupé with Corvette V8 will be auctioned!

"Unsafe at any speed ", this sentence shapes the image of the Corvair series in the USA to this day. It comes from Ralph Nader, the lawyer and later independent US presidential candidate, and sums up the tricky driving behavior that resulted from the unusual vehicle concept with air-cooled rear engine and rear-wheel drive. The reason for the disaster for Chevrolet was probably the installation position of the engine and the enormously rear-heavy weight distribution, with which one emulated a VW Beetle, but did not manage to adopt its qualities. However, there are still fans of this quirky and unusual series from Chevrolet to this day, and today we are hiring you 1965 Chevy Corvair Coupe before, which was completely modified, and whose installation position of the engine was also changed in favor of a better weight distribution.

A dream in blue.

It will take place between July 28 and July 31, 2021 Mecum Auctions auctioned in Orlando, Florida. The current owner, Jeff Moore, a member of the club Corvair Society of America, rebuilt the copy from scratch, and it goes by the name "Super stinger". With the blue paint the Super Stinger immediately catches the eye. The rims come from the American company US Mags and they have the model name Rambler.

On the rims were High-performance tires raised, which should enable a sporty driving style, while offering maximum safety. There were also front and rear Disc brakes installed so that the Corvair Coupé decelerates safely even from high speeds. We are sure that the copy will attract a lot of attention, and that there are many car fans who will appreciate the project.

A lot has been changed in the interior.

Such restomods, which are intended for the quarter mile, are often stingy with comfort features. This Chevy is completely different because there were two leather-covered sports seats with five-point harness belts built in, which should still offer a decent residual comfort despite all the sportiness. Besides, everyone was Carpets and rugs received, and one even came Air conditioning from Vintage Air, which ensures more driving comfort and cool temperatures in the car in summer. Last but not least, there was also a Bluetooth stereo built in, which, in addition to the Corvette V8, ensures good sound. Let's see if the music plays in front of or behind the driver!

LS6-V8 from a Corvette Z06 provides propulsion.

Tuner Jeff moore also owns a 2001 Corvette Z06, which served as an engine donor for the Corvair Coupé from 1965. It wasn't easy to fit the large-volume V8 in such a way that it was balanced Weight distribution of 50:50 was created to normalize driving behavior. Jeff Moore managed to install the engine from the Corvette directly behind the seats, and thus to move it about 20-30 cm forward.

The unit performs about 385 PS, and, together with the low weight of just over 1.200 kg, ensures spectacular driving performance. The power is transmitted via a manual five-speed gearbox from a Porsche 911 scwhich is in Transaxle construction installed. The result is a completely new Corvair that is almost too beautiful to challenge opponents on the quarter mile, as this entails a high level of wear and tear.

Our Conclusion for the Chevrolet Corvair Coupé from 1965:
