Die-hard Cobra fans jumped around like excited children in January when Carroll Shelby's personal 427 Cobra went under the hammer at the Mecums Kissimmee auction. The completely restored vehicle from 1966 (CSX3178) ultimately achieved a handsome result $ 5,94 million. And now comes the next hammer! Now comes Carroll Shelby's Cobra Daytona on the stage. The 1965 coupé bears the chassis number CSX 2469 and is available through the auction house Worldwide Auctioneers offered. Indeed not as an auction, but as a private sale. Shelby and the designer Peter Brock created the Daytona back then by building a modified and aerodynamically optimized fastback body on a Cobra chassis. That should mean the top speed increase and the chances against the rivals of Ferrari in the form of the 250 GTO get better. The Daytona got its name from the famous endurance race in Florida, where it won its class in 1965.
the basis was a Cobra Roadster
And the coupe also won Sebring, Monza and Reims and even won the sports car world championship for Shelby in 1965. However, this vehicle is none of the six real Dantons. The base was a Cobra Roadster and only later did it come into Shelby's possession converted to a coupe. Since then, motorsport legends such as the 1 F1961 champion, Phil Hill, and the sports car legends Derek Bell and Brian Redman have been allowed to move the classic at various events such as Monterey and Goodwood. While an average Daytona currently brings around 2 million US dollars, the celebrity bonus, the FIA papers and documents should provide significantly more.
