1965 Shelby GT350R Prototype "Flying Mustang" is for sale!

And again, Ken Miles Shelby Mustang is auctioned for millions. Again? Exactly! Because it was only sold last year at a Mecum auction in Indianapolis $ 3,85 million. And now it is assumed that the one-off has increased in value again and wants to bring the GT350R under the hammer again in January 2022 in Kissimmee, Florida. But what makes the vehicle so special? The legendary British racing driver drove this GT 350R prototype Ken miles Run. And he drove only this Mustang! Miles provides the template for one of the protagonists in the movie "Le Mans 66". The vehicle is painted in the American racing colors white with blue stripes and with the number SFM5R002 it was the very first Shelby Mustang R model. It is largely original and completely preserved and with it Miles won an SCCA race in 1965 at the Green Valley Raceway near Dallas. That was the first win for a Shelby.

Nickname: "Flying Mustang"

On the hunt for victory, Miles took off the vehicle briefly, which gave the car the nickname "flying mustangs“Brought in. He later sold the Mustang to a Ford Performance engineer for just $ 4.000. This kept him for four years and then sold him again. The new owner won in a year later 18 races in the SCAA Southwest Division with the Mustang. The vehicle then stood in a museum for 14 years and came into the hands of collectors in 2010. After a restoration the 1965 Shelby GT350R Flying Mustang won the award "Best in Class“For the Concours d'Elegance in Amelia Island (2014) and also in Pebble Beach in 2015. As far as we know, nothing has changed on the vehicle since the 2020 auction. It will be interesting to see what the 1965 Shelby GT350R prototype will bring in 2022.
