After yesterday with the new one Brabus 800, the Mansory Cullinan, the new one 992 Turbo S. or the brutal Bugatti Chiron Pure Sport presented a whole flood of cutting-edge vehicles of the present, there is now a Restomod example that has been under its belt for over 50 years. Namely a 1967 Plymouth Barracuda West that was created by the legendary tuner West Coast Customs in 2006. Specifically, it is an early example from the second generation with the A chassis from the predecessor with a 2.692 mm wheelbase. It was also available as a convertible and as a hardtop model with a hatchback and notchback. And the 1967 models were still without side lights or reflectors on the fenders. Starting in 1968, round side lights without reflectors were installed in the USA due to new safety regulations, and a vehicle from 1969 was then given rectangular side reflectors without lights.

Regarding the engines, there was "Pony car-Typical, as the basic model the "225-slant-6" engine with 3,7 liter displacement, but of course there was also a V8 with 4,5 liters including double or quad carburettor up to the rare 6,3 liter Chrysler-B -Big block available. Later there was a 5,2 liter, a 5,6 liter and also Chrysler's largest V8, the RB engine with 7,2 liter displacement, was available. So much for the most important key data of the Plymouth Barracuda West. As expected, the completely restored and rebuilt vehicle from West Coast customs, which operates as Coddington HEMI Barracuda, has hardly anything to do with the delivery status from that time. Almost no stone has been left unturned here and the elegantly painted Barracuda in glossy black impresses with the latest technology and maximum precision with regard to the components used.

Tribute to Boyd Coddington

By the way, Boyd Coddington and his company gave the go-ahead Coddington Hot Rod Shops that Barracuda actually wanted to build. Unfortunately, the American hot rod designer died during the renovation, so his business partner Duane Mayer contacted the West Coast customs team about the completion. They then completed the vehicle in homage to Coddington in cooperation with Mark Holmes from Custom Rod Gauges. The Barracuda Sport Hardtop received a 6.1 SRT8 HEMI-V8 with a good 500 hp which was coupled to a 727 TorqueFlight transmission and articulated by a hand-made sports exhaust system. The Barracuda got a Magnum Force Mustang II subframe at the front, brakes with a high-end sports brake system from Wilwood and transfers the V8 power to the asphalt using 19 and 20-inch Asanti rims.

funky sound system in the cabin

An individual and fully adjustable chassis, special coolers or a current fuel supply are of course self-evident and are further components of the conversion. And the cabin is no less spectacular. It is also completely new and convinces, for example, with a custom-made dashboard including instruments from Custom Rod Gauges, there was a black leather interior and of course a WCC sound system. The most important components here are the 6,5-inch WCC Orion speakers, the 1600-watt WCC Orion monoblock amplifier for the subwoofers and the 800-watt PPI 4-channel power amplifier. It continues with a 10-inch WCC Orion subwoofer with 1600 watts, there was a Visualogic V-Mod system up to the Sony 6.5-inch monitor. A species-appropriate soundscape in the cabin is therefore guaranteed.

Air conditioning and power steering are included

And full suitability for everyday use is also guaranteed in the 1967 Plymouth Barracuda West. The reason is, among other things, a modern heating system including air conditioning and power steering and a contemporary ABS brake system were also considered during installation. The complete renovation was of course captured and meticulously documented in the TV show "Street Customs" from the Discovery Channel at the time. And the handover to Boyd's sons and his first wife could of course also be seen on TV. If we receive information on further details in a timely manner, there is of course an update for this report.
