Electric drive: 1969 Chevrolet Camaro to the SEMA Auto Show

Next to the 450 PS Chevrolet E-10 Restomod Of course, there were even more vehicles with electric power at the SEMA car show in LA that had been converted to electric drive. After all, the topic is on everyone's lips and the supposed future. And one of these cars is a fully restored 1969 Chevrolet Camaro convertible with 320 electric PS. The vehicle was set up by the Taiwanese company XING Mobility that understand themselves as providers of advanced propulsion and battery technology and specialize in electric vehicles. XING Mobility was founded in 2015 and headquartered in Taipei, Taiwan. And even there one knows the charm and the charisma of a legendary Camaro of the 60er years. Thus, they had found the ideal base for the auto show in Los Angeles. Of course, the Camaro is fully restored and rebuilt, much like the above-linked E-10, a quintessential preview of an 450 Volt plug-and-play electric powertrain in a classic.

should fit any GM LS transmission

The vehicle has a modular battery pack with a high-power AC motor and can be coupled to a variety of transmissions. The so-called liquid-cooled "Immersio Modular Battery System" from Xing can be assembled and expanded according to the modular principle in order to achieve the required range depending on the concept of the car. Of course, there is always enough space in the vehicle for the batteries. The 320 hp electric motor is supplied directly with a plug-and-play kit and the adapter connection for the gearbox should be compatible with all gearboxes in the GM LS series. And more adapters are to follow in the near future. This means that the XING mobility system is a direct competitor to the American manufacturer's GM eCrate, and in the end, the only decisive factor for many will be the price. The GM variant has a good 100 hp more and includes a SuperMatic 4L75-E automatic transmission, but whether this is the decisive factor, especially when converting a classic car, can be doubted.

visually a typical Camaro of the 60-70er

After all, more than 300 hp is an extremely good basis for a classic. And of course it should also be mentioned that this Camaro SS has received a significant lowering, a multi-part forged wheel set and a completely new interior in order to make a visually powerful impression. In addition, a classic paintwork in metallic brown with accents in silver and here and there there were a few "Xing" hints. The convertible was stolen from the back seat, but this served in particular to illustrate the installation of the E-system and that can of course also be solved differently. The rest of the interior is kept as original as possible and so only a small LCD display in the center console provides information about the status of the electric drive. If we receive more information about the E-Cabrio Camaro in a timely manner, there is of course an update for this report. You will be informed about this if you simply use ours Feed subscribe to.
