This 1972 Datsun 240Z was founded in 2001 by its owner (James Smith from Smith Classic Cars) for a mere $ 1.000. A V8 engine was already installed at the time of purchase and the top was also removed. But the project still had to be brought to an end. On the one hand, the way in which the roof was removed still had to be reworked and, in general, there was a lot of bodywork to be done. After that there was one complete paint from yellow to olive green. In the course of the bodywork there was an integrated Ducktail spoiler lip on the tailgate and beyond was the rear apron revised to the style a little cleaner to appear. And since the car is more of a roofless coupe than a full-size convertible, Smith has one Aluminum hard top let build, but that is not finished yet.

A look into the cabin shows an almost completely original interior including red leather seats, fatter sound system, a new one Sport steering wheel as well as central additional ads. The classic also continues to run with the Original chassis. But that got progressive Spring and the 580Z stands up for it Panasport rims with wider tires. And since the roof is missing, one had to be installed at the front to stiffen the body Domstrebe can be installed and a rear provides a Roll bar for the necessary stability. As the name “580Z” suggests, the real highlight is of course “under the hood”. Namely, one is installed Chevy 350 V8 engine (5,8 liter displacement) with forged components inside, with a Edelbrock carburetor and -Intake manifold.

But that's not all. There were still ceramic-coated ones elbow and a few other modifications to improve performance on good 300 PS. This is almost can triple performance compared to the series as 240Z. The power comes from 4-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels, which means that the 3-speed gearbox has been replaced. The rest is best seen in the video from Jay Leno's garage at. If we get more information about the changes, there will of course be an update for this report.
