Pretted up - 2020 Honda Civic Type R GT presented!

With “Limited Edition” and “Sport Line”, Honda makes the “Civic Type R” series even more attractive. The new Civic Type R Limited Edition is the sportiest version of the vehicle to date. This Type R in its purest form impresses with new lightweight components, a reduced interior, improved driving dynamics and an outstanding design. The second new addition to the range is the Civic Type R Sport Line. With a rear spoiler instead of wings, 19-inch alloy wheels and black interior, the vehicle stands for a more subtle look. All model variants of the "Civic Type R" series, including the current Civic Type R GT, have been optically revised for the new model year. The front bumper looks even more elegant, the lower fog lights now sit in bezels with smooth surfaces and slim accents in the shape of a blade. The LED headlights and daytime running lights have also been redesigned and stand for a design that will shape the entire Civic family in the future.

A larger air inlet and narrower struts increase the grille opening by 13 percent and, in the case of heavy use, such as on the race track, together with the optimized radiator block, reduce the coolant temperature by up to 10 degrees (internal tests). The slight reduction in contact pressure at the front, which resulted from the larger grille opening, could be compensated for by the redesign of the front spoiler, which is located below the bumper. This now sits a little lower and has novel ribbed areas at the ends to direct air back to the spoiler. The suspension of the Civic Type R 2020 has also been revised, responsiveness and handling properties have been optimized. The software of the adaptive damper system now recognizes the road conditions even faster, which results in improved damper reactions and thus further increases handling and driving quality. The stiffened rear bearing bushes of the lower B-beams offer an eight percent improvement in lateral loads, which contributes to better pre-tracking properties when cornering.

Revised elastic bearing bushes and new low-friction ball joints at the front ensure more precise steering behavior and thus more control. The revised brake system delivers higher braking performance with floating brake discs and new brake pads. The improved thermal efficiency further reduces fading, which guarantees optimal performance, especially during intensive racing track use. The pedal play reduced by around 15 mm ensures a more direct response. In addition, the new front brake system reduces the unsprung mass by approx. 2,5 kg, which also contributes to the improved handling properties. In the interior, as in all Civic models, the infotainment system and climate control with physical buttons and controls are now even easier to operate. The new Alcantara® cover on the steering wheel increases grip, while a new drop-shaped gear knob is reminiscent of previous Type R models and improves shifting feel and accuracy with the help of an inner 90-gram counterweight. Also new is the Active Sound Control (ASC) with individual sound settings for each driving mode: In the "Sport" and "+ R" driving modes, the ASC amplifies the engine noise via the audio system speakers, and it is reduced in the "Comfort" mode.

Civic Type R GT 2020 with Honda LogR

Pretted up - 2020 Honda Civic Type R GT presented!

The Type R is the first vehicle from the Honda brand to feature an exclusive data logger. The name “Honda LogR” is a system that connects the Type R on-board computer and various vehicle sensors with a smartphone app, thus enabling the recording of a number of performance parameters to help drivers refine their driving skills. By accessing the on-board computer, Honda LogR can provide much more detailed data than data logger apps from third-party providers. Honda LogR offers three main functions: a "Performance Monitor", a "Log" mode and an "Auto Score" mode. When the app is activated, the performance monitor shows vehicle information on the audio display. In log mode, the lap times completed on the racetrack can be recorded to help the driver improve his skills. The Auto Score function promotes smooth daily driving by monitoring braking behavior, acceleration, steering behavior and straight-ahead driving and evaluating it on the basis of an algorithm. When driving, all interaction with Honda LogR takes place on the audio display. Both the log mode and the Auto Score function enable a detailed analysis of different driving and vehicle data via the smartphone. With the help of Google Maps, completed journeys and performance measurements can also be displayed and repeated.

  • Performance Monitor
When there is a connection to the smartphone app, the Performance R appears on the central screen of the Type R, providing the driver with various vehicle data in real time. These include gear ratio, coolant and oil temperature, oil and atmospheric pressure and the temperature of the air drawn in by the engine.

There is also a “G-meter” view with information on acceleration, braking and cornering behavior and a “3D” view that shows the bird’s eye view of cornering, braking and acceleration behavior. The current driving mode (Comfort, Sport or + R) is also shown on the audio display.

  • Log mode
Log mode helps the driver improve lap times on the racetrack. The system uses GPS and sensor data to determine information on acceleration, braking and cornering behavior, as well as other parameters. With the help of colored markings for each lap, the app supports smooth and controlled driving. The goal is smooth coupling, shifting, steering, braking and accelerating for balanced driving behavior. This is intended to improve overall driving skills, not just the skills required for a particular racetrack. Users have the option of saving lap times and tracking personal progress.
  • Auto Score
The Auto Score function is always active when using the Honda LogR app and is used for long-term evaluation of driving behavior. For this purpose, data on acceleration, deceleration, cornering and driving straight ahead are collected and evaluated with points. In addition, a combined value is generated from these four parameters. However, the Auto Score evaluation is not about faster lap times, but about driving as evenly as possible in everyday life. As in log mode, the driving data is also saved in the auto score function to enable long-term evaluation of driving behavior.

Honda Civic Type R Limited Edition with record time

Focus on the racetrack: The new Civic Type R Limited Edition was developed with the aim of being the most dynamic compact sports car with front-wheel drive. The new lightweight components and the reduced, driver-oriented interior make it the sportiest Civic Type R that has ever been built. The model, limited to 100 units in Europe, benefits from the exceptional driving dynamics of the Civic Type R standard version. In addition, there are forged BBS 20-inch alloy wheels with Michelin Cup 2 tires, which were developed for use on the racetrack, but can also be used in normal road traffic. Modified dampers serve to complement this wheel-tire combination, while the newly tuned steering provides maximum control and precise feedback. The overall concept is underlined by the exclusive “Sunlight Yellow” paint finish and the dark chrome Civic badge on the rear. The contrasting, glossy black on the roof, exterior mirrors and air intake on the bonnet refer to Honda's long racing tradition and emphasize the prominent position of the limited edition in the compact sports segment.

Interior with red bucket seats

The interior of the Civic Type R Limited Edition reflects the sporty tradition of the Honda brand with red bucket seats, a red Alcantara steering wheel and a teardrop-shaped gear knob. A badge with a production number proves the exclusivity of the limited edition. To save weight and maximize racetrack performance, the sound-absorbing material in the roof, tailgate, front bumper and dashboard has been reduced; The infotainment system and air conditioning are not part of the equipment. Compared to the Type R with GT equipment, this saves a total of 47 kg. In contrast to other track-oriented compact models, the rear seats - and thus the everyday suitability typical of the Civic - are retained.

preparing for an FWD record

The Honda Sensing safety and driver assistance systems are also retained: Like the normal Type R, the limited edition has a collision warning system with brake assist, a lane departure warning system and adaptive cruise control. The same applies to the drive: the well-known powerful 2.0 VTEC TURBO with 320 hp at 6.500 rpm and a maximum torque of 1 Nm is used, which is released between 400 rpm and 2.500 rpm. The acceleration from 1-4.500 km / h takes 1 seconds. Sales of the 0 copies of the Type R Limited Edition destined for the European market will start in summer 100. The prices will be announced shortly before the market launch.

Honda Civic Type R SportLine

Pretted up - 2020 Honda Civic Type R GT presented!

The Type R Sport Line, the second new addition to the Civic Type R family, is somewhat more reserved. It combines the excellent driving dynamics of the Type R with more subtle aerodynamic attachments and greater driving comfort. The most striking difference between the Type R Sport Line and the standard Civic Type R is the lower rear spoiler, which replaces the high-placed rear wing. This gives the vehicle a still sporty, but somewhat more subtle appearance. Another distinguishing feature is the gray accent line that runs around the lower area of the Civic Type R Sport Line. The new “Racing Blue”, which is available for both the Type R Sport Line and the Type R GT, has entered the color range. The Civic Type R Sport Line offers a more balanced driving experience. Exclusive 19-inch alloy wheels are covered with Michelin Pilot Sports 4S tires, which increase driving comfort with a softer side wall. Additional insulation materials in the trunk and tailgate lower the level of noise and vibration.

from spring at prices from 41.490 euros

The interior combines the clear performance focus of the series with an overall more subtle ambience. The new drop-shaped gear knob, the Alcantara steering wheel and red stitching, which can be found on the black bucket seats and on the interior trim, characterize the atmosphere and refer to Honda's motorsport tradition. Like the Civic Type R, the new Type R Sport Line also has a variety of comfort and safety features, including the 7-inch infotainment system with DAB radio and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The new Civic Type R Sport Line will be available from spring at prices starting at EUR 41.490. If we receive more information in a timely manner, there is of course an update for this report.
