The BMW iX is the brand's first model to feature the new Operating System 8 and the latest generation of the BMW iDrive, which turns the interaction between driver and vehicle into an intuitive, personal and emotional experience. At the same time, Operating System 8 forms the basis for the seamless integration of additional digital services. The optimized options for using market-specific apps in China are another focus of BMW's presentation at Auto Shanghai 2021. An additional highlight is the world premiere of the BMW 7 Series Two-Tone edition model, designed exclusively for customers in China, and a preview of the fully electric one BMW i4 in M ​​Sport version.

The BMW iX is presented in a completely new, precise and minimalist design. It combines locally emission-free driving pleasure and agile sportiness with the help of an electric all-wheel drive as well as convincing range with a characteristic that is consistently oriented towards sustainability from the ground up, taking into account the entire life cycle of the vehicle from raw material procurement through the production and use phase to subsequent recycling.

The BMW iX will be offered in two model variants for the market launch at the end of 2021. The electric motors of the BMW iX xDrive50 and BMW iX xDrive40 models as well as the power electronics, the charging technology and the high-voltage batteries come from the fifth generation of BMW eDrive technology. This means that performance, dynamics, long-distance suitability and efficiency reach an outstanding level. The electric all-wheel drive of the BMW iX xDrive50 has a maximum output of more than 370 kW / 500 PS and enables acceleration from zero to 100 km / h in less than 5,0 seconds, combined with a range of more than 600 kilometers and power consumption of less than 21 kWh per 100 kilometers in the WLTP test cycle. The corresponding values ​​for the BMW iX xDrive40 are more than 240 kW / 300 PS and a little more than 6,0 seconds as well as more than 400 kilometers and less than 20,0 kWh per 100 kilometers. Just like the electric all-wheel drive, the versatile interior also corresponds to the character of a modern SAV. More than ever, the vehicle concept and design of the BMW iX focus on the needs of the occupants. The vehicle was designed from the inside out. Its interior offers pioneering opportunities to use the time of driving in a self-determined manner while enjoying relaxation, security and a new form of luxury.

The new technology kit, used for the first time in the BMW iX, also forms the basis for significant progress in the areas of connectivity and digital services. For example, data processing is geared towards a volume that is 20 times higher than that of previous models. This means that a multiple of sensor data can be processed. The sensors themselves are also more powerful than ever. The BMW iX is also 5G-capable for fast and reliable transfer of large amounts of data between the vehicle and the BMW Cloud.

The new BMW iDrive with seamlessly integrated digital services from Tencent.

The new generation of BMW iDrive creates a comprehensive, intelligent, multi-sensory experience tailored to the driver. This creates a natural dialogue between man and machine with the aim of aligning all functions controlled via BMW iDrive precisely and appropriately to the needs and wishes of the driver.

With iDrive, BMW customers around the world have always offered extensive integration of digital services from so-called third-party providers. Market-specific applications and services are also taken into account and seamlessly integrated into the vehicle's operating system. The display and operation are always in the form familiar from smartphone use. In addition to the offers from Apple and Google, the apps from local platforms that are relevant to the Chinese automotive market will also be integrated. With the introduction of the BMW Operating System 8 and the latest iDrive generation, the integration of services from the Chinese platform Tencent in particular has reached a new level.

Operating System 7 used in current BMW models already enables the integration of Tencent applications that are particularly popular in China. The prerequisites for this were created with Tencent's Mini Program platform. It is used to seamlessly integrate digital services from the areas of communication, travel, entertainment, infotainment, edutainment and gaming into the vehicle's operating system. One of the innovations presented with the introduction of the latest BMW iDrive generation is the newly developed integration of the WeChat digital communication service.

The WeChat application, like the entire Mini Program platform, is natively integrated into the BMW Operating System. This means that the functions contained in the WeChat app can be controlled in a particularly user-friendly manner via the vehicle's own iDrive system. They are shown on the BMW Curved Display in the form that customers are used to. The different content can be viewed as needed and in context on the info display or the control display of the digital advertising network. The individual functions can be activated quickly and intuitively via the selectable apps menu of the operating system.

In the BMW iX, the new, integrated applications from Tencent are already available for market launch in China. The first WeChat functions that can be used comfortably, easily and safely in the vehicle include WeChat telephony, voice messages and the sharing of location data, which can be used immediately as a navigation destination. Further functions and additional apps will continue to be integrated and updated in the BMW Operating System with the help of the Tencent Mini Program platform. Stylish luxury for China: the BMW 7 Series Two-Tone edition model.

A new edition model of the BMW 7 Series, which will be presented for the first time at Auto Shanghai 2021, embodies a unique combination of luxury, sovereignty and exclusivity. The BMW 7 Series in the Two-Tone Edition has an exceptionally stylish look thanks to a two-tone paintwork in the combination of cashmere silver metallic / aventurine red metallic. The luxury sedan is based on the twelve-cylinder model BMW M760Li xDrive and only 25 copies are produced exclusively for customers in China.

In addition to the market-specific interpretation of exclusive driving pleasure, visitors to Auto Shanghai 2021 can also expect the latest expression of racing fascination in everyday traffic.
