2021 Porsche Taycan - faster in every way!

From October there will be numerous innovations for the Porsche Taycan at the model year change. The new Plug & Charge function allows convenient charging and payment without a card or app: as soon as the charging cable is plugged in, the Taycan communicates with the Plug & Charge-enabled charging station in encrypted form. The charging process then starts automatically. The same goes for payment. Further innovations are: vehicle functions that can be booked online flexibly (Functions on Demand, FoD), a colored head-up display and an on-board charger with a charging capacity of up to 22 kW. The adaptive air suspension will in future have a smart lift function.

improved acceleration values

In addition, the acceleration values ​​of the Taycan Turbo S are improved (Taycan Turbo S: combined power consumption 26,9 kWh / 100 km; CO2 emissions combined 0 g / km (as of 08/2020)). The sprint from zero to 200 km / h now takes 9,6 seconds with Launch Control, 0,2 seconds faster than before. The quarter mile is after 10,7 seconds (previously 10,8 s) completed. As before, the Taycan achieves its driving performance values ​​with the reproducibility typical of sports cars.

Intuitive display system and intelligent chassis

A colored head-up display is now available on request. This projects relevant information directly into the driver's field of vision. The display is divided into the main display area, the status area and an area for displaying temporary content. This includes, for example, calls or voice control commands. Navigation, power meters and a user-defined view are also available as presets.

With the new, in combination with the adaptive air suspension standard Smart lift function the Taycan can be programmed so that it is automatically raised at certain recurring points such as road thresholds or garage driveways. Even when driving on the autobahn, the smart lift function can actively influence the vehicle height and adjust the vehicle level to the best possible compromise between efficiency and driving comfort.

Another new option is a On-board AC charger with 22 kW. This means that the battery can be charged about twice as quickly as with the standard 11 kW charger with alternating current. This option will be available from the end of the year.

Flexible post-purchase upgrade with Functions on Demand (FoD)

With FoD, Taycan drivers can purchase various comfort and assistance functions as required. The special thing about it: This also works after the purchase and the original configuration of the sports car. A visit to the workshop is not necessary thanks to online transmission. This is already possible today with the Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM). The Power Steering Plus, Active Lane Guidance and Porsche InnoDrive are now added as additional FoD functions.

Customers can choose whether they want to buy the respective function for their Taycan or book it as a monthly subscription; the latter includes three test months. After registration, the selection of the desired function (s) in the Porsche Connect Store and the appropriate connectivity, the Porsche backend sends a data packet to the Taycan via the cellular network. The driver is informed of its availability via Porsche Communication Management (PCM). Activation takes a few minutes. After successful activation, a message appears once in the central display. From the model update, four functions will be available for purchase, three of which are also available with a monthly subscription.

The active lane guidance keeps the vehicle in the middle of the lane through continuous steering interventions - even in traffic jams. InnoDrive adapts the speed independently and typical of a sports car to the upcoming conditions, such as speed limits, curves, roundabouts, right of way and stop signs. Both functions cost 19,50 euros per month or 808,10 euros each as a purchase option.

The Porsche Intelligent Range Manager (PIRM) acts in the background when route guidance is activated and optimizes all system parameters for the shortest travel time with maximum comfort. A monthly fee of EUR 10,72 or a one-off EUR 398,69 is due for this.

The Servotronic Plus works speed dependent. At high speeds, it reacts directly and precisely, at low speeds with more steering assistance. This function-on-demand costs 320,71 euros once. It is not available as a monthly option. All prices are recommended retail prices for Germany including 16 percent VAT.

Even more charging convenience

Another new feature is that battery-saving charging. It can be used to limit the charging power to around 200 kW at suitable charging stations such as the fast charging stations from Ionity, if a longer break is planned anyway. This extends the life of the battery and reduces the overall power loss. The battery-saving charging function can be selected by the driver on the central display. If this does not happen, a charging power of up to 800 kW is of course still possible on 270-volt high-power charging columns.

There are more new ones in connection with the Mobile Charger Connect and the Home Energy Manager intelligent charging functions to disposal. These include the current monitor function, which can now also prevent the house connection from being overloaded for each phase, and self-optimized charging. With this function, the Taycan can be specifically charged with in-house solar power. Once the freely selectable minimum battery charge has been reached, only solar power that is not used by the house is used.

Plug & Charge simplifies charging: Taycan drivers only have to plug in the charging cable and charging is done. The authentication data is stored in the vehicle. This means that the charging station automatically recognizes who is standing at the column. The ISO standard 15118 ensures that communication between the infrastructure and the car is protected from manipulation. The payment process is also carried out automatically. Plug & Charge already works at Ionity charging stations in Germany, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Italy and the Czech Republic. Twelve more countries in Europe will follow in early 2021. In the USA and Canada, Plug & Charge will also be available at many charging points from the beginning of 2021 at Electrify America and Electrify Canada.

Larger choice of colors

There are seven new ones for the 2021 model year Exterior colors to choose from: Mahagony Metallic, Frozenberry Metallic, Cherry Metallic, Coffee Beige Metallic, Chalk, Neptun Blue and Ice Gray Metallic. For all Taycan versions that is Sport design package carbon available. This includes, among other things, carbon inserts in the lower part of the bow and in the rocker panels as well as carbon side fins on the rear diffuser.

Digital radio is now series. Digitally broadcast radio programs in the formats DAB, DAB + and DMB Audio offer significantly better sound quality.
