He was officially the beautiful successor to the “Pay of“ (Mercedes-Benz W 113) and was presented at the Paris Motor Show in October 1971. The Mercedes-Benz R 107 series, which was built for an incredible 18 years from 1971 to 1989. We find the sister model Mercedes-Benz even nicer than the open temptation across editors, but clearly C 107 coupe, Compared to the Roadster, the closed variant has an extended wheelbase and a full back seat for three people. The front is identical to that of the roadster up to the windshield, but we like the flat roof, which ends in a huge, curved in two directions, rear window much better. And Mercedes-Benz Coupé usually comes with the fully retractable rear side windows, which eliminate an annoying B-pillar.

3,0 liter Toyota 2JZ-GTE 6 cylinder

And the engine was more than befitting, especially as the 450 SLC with the popular M 117 4.5-liter V8. After all, there was 225 hp that were only slightly outbid by the 450 SLC 5.0 and the last built 500 SLC. And such a 450 SLC Coupe belongs to the Japanese Takahiro Higuchi the Mark Riccioni from Speedhunters magazine has visited. And he didn't seem to think anything of the V8 from German production. He simply threw the engine out and installed a modified 3,0-liter Toyota 2JZ-GTE 6-cylinder. In addition to other minor modifications, it also received a TD06-turbocharger and one Air Filter and the result is stable and well tolerated 450 hp. So the designation 450 SLC is somehow still correct. Incidentally, the new engine runs a MoTeC M600 ECU software and is shifted with a 4-speed automatic from a Toyota Aristo. And you can hardly see the motor swap in the SLC. Although it is in perfect condition and with a 17 inch HWA Asteroid Wheels (similar to the OEM Penta) Equipped wheelset, but the rims and the defect-free cover certainly do not indicate such extensive modifications.

AMG front spoiler on the apron

And also the sporty AMG front spoiler including the additional fog lights does not suggest what provides propulsion under the hood. The best way to make this clear is to look through the narrow spokes of the aluminum. This is where a Brembo sports brake system sits, the components of which come from an F430 and an F50 from Ferrari. In combination with the large slotted brake discs, a deceleration appropriate to the species should be ensured. And the interior is also very subtly changed. The ATI AMG steering wheel takes some getting used to and everything else is in the same condition as it was then. A beautiful vehicle as we find, and impressive proof of how successful a Restomod-Project can be implemented.
