Video: A Lamborghini Aventador from the 3D printer

It's hard to believe, but this Lamborghini Aventador from physicist Sterling Backus und Sohn comes from a 3D printer. The two have been working on the project for a good 1 1/2 years and the result is getting better almost every day. The original goal was not to spend more than 20.000 US dollars (approx. 17.800 euros) in order to implement the so-called "AXAS Interceptor". But the limit has already been reached. In view of a “real” Aventador that costs at least 335.000 euros, that's of course a joke. Even the doubling of the costs is probably bearable. Apart from the chassis (Mix of self-made steel frame + cantilever suspension), the drivetrain, the Wilwood braking system and a few structural parts are all essentials from the 3D printer. For this one processed "only for the body“Already over 200 rolls of thermoplastic. Components like the headlights, the taillights and the already well advanced interior are not even included. And the drive is also acceptable.

While coming not The 6,5-liter V12 is sucked in by the real Aventador, but the 5,7-liter LS1-V8 from the 2003 Corvette is unlikely to be weak. After all, he also has two turbochargers and Sterling built the gearbox from a Porsche 911 996 series. Small details like the side windows, the glasses for the rearview mirrors or the windscreen wipers are used from the internet and the majority of the switches and the steering wheel come from manufacturer Audi. The inner workings of the doors, on the other hand, are made of metal, and countless pieces of plastic are painstakingly handcrafted in carbon for the perfect original carbon look. Incidentally, for each of the components, Sterling pays little attention to deviating from the original, so that no copyright problems can be expected from Lamborghini.
