New special exhibition: 50 years of Porsche Design

Starting today, the Porsche Museum is honoring the 50th anniversary of the brand with a special exhibition: until July 10, 2022, visitors can immerse themselves in the most important, interesting and unusual products as well as the history of the origins of Porsche Design. Together with his brother Hans-Peter, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche, son of Ferry Porsche, founded Porsche Design in Stuttgart in 1972. Porsche Design has long been an internationally renowned lifestyle brand, known for functional and durable products with puristic aesthetics. In addition to the presentation of the life's work of FA Porsche, his design philosophy and his high creative influence, various exhibits from five decades of Porsche Design will also be on display.

The Chronograph I, a milestone in the art of watchmaking, symbolizes the birth of Porsche Design. Two different versions of the legendary watch are therefore presented at the center of the special exhibition: the Chronograph 1 – 1972 Limited Edition and the Chronograph 1 – 911 Edition 50 Porsche Design.

Other classics from Porsche Design can be experienced digitally and interactively, some of which have received multiple awards for form and function: the exhibits include the P`8478 aviator glasses, the P`9521 mobile phone, the P`3613 whistle and the Monobloc Actuator watch series with fully integrated chronograph pushers.

Also part of the anniversary exhibition are style-defining vehicles that FA Porsche created or also come from his private collection: Among them is the 904 Carrera GTS, which he himself once described as his masterpiece. A 911 (993) Speedster from his estate will be on display. The 911 S 2.4 Targa from Porsche Design’s founding year 1972, restored by the Porsche Classic department as part of the special request program, and the new edition model “Porsche 911 Edition 50 Years of Porsche Design” are also part of the vehicle show.

The exclusive special model is limited to 750 units and its numerous equipment details are reminiscent of the design icons from FA Porsche. In addition to the exterior color in non-metallic black, the references include the center sections of the seats covered with Sport-Tex in a classic checked pattern and the red second hand of the Porsche Design Subsecond clock of the standard Sport Chrono Package.

About Porsche Design

“Good design has to be honest,” Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche always emphasized. He designed the legendary Porsche 911 and founded the design studio in 1972. Managing Director Roland Heiler and his team still follow his philosophy today. Using authentic materials, they design well thought-out, functional and durable products with a puristic aesthetic. As the in-house design team of the "Porsche Design" brand, the designers inspire with high-quality products such as watches, sunglasses, luggage and leather goods.

With locations in Zell am See, Berlin and Ludwigsburg, Los Angeles and Shanghai, the design office also offers its work to international clients. This is how first-class consumer goods, household appliances and industrial products are created - for example in cooperation with Elan, KEF, LaCie, Morita or Panasonic. The choice of materials plays a crucial role in Studio FA Porsche products. Titanium and carbon often make them life companions and also provide new, unexpected functions. Through the combination of traditional, honest design approaches and ambitious innovations, the products become real luxury goods.

The Porsche Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 18 p.m. The current hygiene regulations of the Porsche Museum are available on the website: www.porsche.de/Museum. Photo credit: Porsche
