Caterham Super Seven 1600 - puristic British for unfiltered driving pleasure.

Regardless of whether from Westfield, Caterham, Kaipan or other small series manufacturers, puristic roadsters in the style of the legendary Lotus Super Seven are always booming among true car enthusiasts who are looking for original, unfiltered driving pleasure and who like to let the wind blow around their noses . But these recreational vehicles are actually conceived as pure track tools, which can develop their true dynamic driving potential on winding race tracks.

Design from a different automotive era.

In the style of the 1970s, the Caterham Super Seven 1600 sees itself as a driving machine of the purest water, which almost completely dispenses with any comfort and modern bells and whistles. Only LED headlights and an electronic limited-slip differential are available for a surcharge, but no airbags, automatic climate control and other features that make modern automobiles a comfort zone. The legendary cigar shape of the Lotus Super Seven has of course been completely retained in the Caterham counterpart of the same name, and the body is completely trimmed for lightweight construction and omitting everything unnecessary. The former advertising slogan of the Smart brand "Reduce To The Max" is implemented here in a consistent manner. With its free-standing wheels and the extremely baroque fenders, the design language of racing cars from times long past is also cited. The 14-inch alloy wheels, however, seem a bit lost and don't look exactly sporty, but are simply a few sizes too small. A heater is also offered as an option, but it is not advisable to pilot such a purist roadster, which offers no protection from wind and weather, in winter, because this vehicle is absolutely not designed for low temperatures.

Drive known from various Ford models.

A 1,6-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine with 137 hp and about 170 Newton meters of maximum torque acts as the drive source. The special highlight in the engine compartment, however, are the fake carburettors, which should remind you of times long past, even though the engine has a modern multipoint injection system. At first 137 horsepower does not sound like a lot of power, but with a weight of less than 700 kg, which the Caterham only puts on the scales, this should ensure sufficient sporty performance and surprise some drivers positively. There is no information about the maximum speed yet, but it should be in the range of around 200 km / h. The power transmission takes place via a conventional manual transmission with five gears, and automatic transmission is not offered for an additional charge, since it would not fit such a puristic automobile at all and completely water down the original concept.

The fun starts at 44.000 euros.

The dream of unadulterated and puristic driving doesn't have to remain unfulfilled, because with a basic price of 44.000 euros, the new Caterham Super Seven 1600 is relatively affordable compared to other roadsters of this color. Competitors like a Donkervoort or a Ariel Atom are much more expensive, and do not necessarily offer more driving pleasure than this little fun rocket from the United Kingdom. Car and tuning enthusiasts, who are already mouth-watering, should take a closer look at the affordable dream car, which not only steals the show from traffic jams and Sunday walks, but also demonstrates its ability on the racetrack.
