Porsche 911 (992) GT3 70 Years Porsche Australia Edition!

On November 1, 1951, the Australian businessman Norman Hamilton exhibited the first two Porsche 356 sports cars that came to Australia in the South Melbourne Town Hall. Seventy years later, Porsche Cars Australia held a gala event in nearby Port Melbourne to mark the 70th anniversary of Porsche in Australia. A highlight: the 911 GT3 70 Years Porsche Australia Edition. The 450 GT911 3 Years Porsche Australia Edition was among the more than 70 guests. The limited special model is based on the new 911 GT3 with touring package. It is the first time that Porsche has built a market-specific edition on top of a 911 GT product, and the first time that a special edition by Porsche has been launched for the Australian market.

911 GT3 70 Years Australian Edition

The 911 GT3 70 Years Porsche Australia Edition was developed in collaboration with the experts from the Style Porsche design team, the customization department of Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and Porsche Cars Australia. The vehicle features a number of unique exterior and interior design features to celebrate this year's significant milestone.

The model is produced in limited numbers and painted in a special color developed by Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur. The color Fish Silver Gray Metallic is a modern take on Fish Silver Gray, the color of one of the first two Porsche 356s imported to Australia in 1951. The fully electric Taycan and other Porsche models were also on display, including the new Macan, which will be presented to the Australian media for the first time this week. The Porsche classics on display included models that have shaped the Australian market in every decade since the 1950s, from the 356 to the 928 to the current 911.

The event master of ceremonies was noted Australian entertainer Tommy Little, who initiated video messages from two very special guests. Detlev von Platen, Member of the Board of Management of Porsche AG for Sales and Marketing, gave an inspiring speech of thanks and a celebratory speech. The nine-time Formula 1 Grand Prix winner, endurance world champion and Porsche brand ambassador Mark Webber also conveyed his best wishes and spoke about his relationship with Porsche and its place in the hearts of Australian fans.

In addition to the managing director and CEO of Porsche Cars Australia, Daniel Schmollinger, former heads of the Australian Porsche branches and many well-known personalities from the local Porsche community were also present. The special guests also included a number of current and former Australian Porsche racing drivers, including Porsche Champion Jim Richards. Australian Porsche owners of all generations attended the celebrations, including Kate Reid, a trained engineer and co-founder of the famous Lune Croissanterie in Melbourne.

a fascinating story

It's a fascinating story about a chance meeting between Norman Hamilton and Ferry Porsche in 1951. The then Porsche test driver Richard von Frankenberg introduced the two of them after he first met Hamilton on a test drive on the famous Grossglockner High Alpine Road. History was made at the first meeting between Norman Hamilton and Ferry Porsche. Hamilton became the second Porsche representative outside Europe after Max Hoffman in the USA and made Australia one of Porsche's first markets.
