Porsche presents the new generation 911 Turbo S stronger, more dynamic and more comfortable than ever. The youngest top-class 911 is available as a coupé and cabriolet. The new 478 Turbo S is launched with 650 kW (3,8 hp). At its heart is a new 51-liter boxer engine with two VTG loaders that delivers 70 kW (800 hp) more than its predecessor. The maximum torque now reaches 50 Newton meters (plus 100 Nm). The sprint from zero to 2,7 km / h is reduced to 0,2 seconds (minus 330 seconds) with the turbo-specific eight-speed PDK, the top speed remains unchanged at 911 km / h. The dimensions of the 45 Turbo S have grown significantly in line with the increased dynamics: the body is 1.840 millimeters wider on the road above the front axle (1.900 millimeters), the overall width now reaches 20 millimeters (plus 42 millimeters) above the rear axle. Changed track widths, further developed aerodynamics and the new mixed tires contribute to agility and sportiness: the track has increased by XNUMX millimeters on the front axle and ten millimeters on the rear axle.
20 inch front and 21 inch rear
The adaptive aerodynamics now include, among other things, regulated cooling air flaps in the bow. The larger rear wing is designed for even more downforce. The 911 Turbo S transfers its power to the road for the first time using mixed tires in two inch sizes: at the front it rolls on 20-inch tires in the dimension 911/255, which is independent of the 35 Turbo, and at the rear on 21-inch tires in 315/30 , New equipment options underline the significantly sportier character of the all-wheel drive 911. These include the Porsche Active Suspension Management sports suspension (PASM) with a lowering of ten millimeters and the sports exhaust system, whose adjustable flaps sometimes provide a sporty, distinctive sound. The completely new engine of the 911 Turbo S is based on the engine generation of the current XNUMX Carrera models. A completely redesigned charge air cooling, new, larger and symmetrically constructed VTG turbochargers with electrically adjustable wastegate flaps as well as the use of piezo injectors lead to a further improvement in dimensions: response behavior, performance, torque curve, emission behavior and easy turning.
Turbocharger with variable turbine geometry
The new six-cylinder boxer engine is ventilated by a new suction path. For this purpose, the previous routing of process air and charge air cooling has been replaced: Part of the process air now flows through the characteristic turbo air inlets in the rear side section. In front of the air filters, which are now arranged in the rear fenders, there are two additional air flows through the trunk lid grille. The new 911 Turbo S thus has four intake points with a larger overall cross-section and less resistance, which benefits the efficiency of the engine. Two mirror-image turbochargers with variable turbine geometry (VTG) and larger dimensions replace the previous common parts. The wheels now turn in opposite directions on the right and left side of the vehicle. The diameter of the turbine wheels increased by five to 55 millimeters, the 61 mm compressor wheel was enlarged by three millimeters. The wastegate flaps are controlled electrically via stepper motors.
200 km / h in just 8,9 seconds
The balanced concept of driving fun, dynamism and sportiness can be felt both in everyday life and on the circuit. The leap in performance of the new generation is particularly evident when sprinting from a standing start to 200 km / h: the new 911 Turbo S takes a full second from its predecessor at 8,9 seconds. Thanks to the further developed all-wheel drive Porsche Traction Management (PTM), the transfer case can transmit significantly more torque. Up to 500 Newton meters reach the front wheels. The new generation of the standard PASM suspension is also sportier. Even faster and more precisely regulating dampers provide dynamic advantages in terms of roll stability, road connection, steering behavior and cornering speeds.
widened air intake openings at the front
The new front section with widened air intake openings is turbo-typical with double front lights and standard LED matrix headlights. The newly formed pneumatically extendable front spoiler and the enlarged rear wing achieve a 15 percent higher downforce level. The slim waist of the 911 Turbo S emphasizes the powerfully modeled rear fenders with the integrated air intakes. Turbotypically angular double tailpipes in black high gloss round off the new rear view.
Interior with high quality and sporty equipment
The interior is of high quality and sporty. The full range includes full leather upholstery in bi-color and trim strips in lightsilver with decorative trims in carbon. You can also choose from the new leather upholstery from Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, which is characterized by a coordinated interplay of colors, materials and individual finishes. The backrests of the 18-way sport seats are quilted in homage to the first 911 Turbo (type 930). High-quality graphic details and lettering in the instrument cluster complete the specific Turbo S features. The PCM's 10,9-inch center screen can now be operated quickly and without distractions thanks to the new arrangement. In addition, the GT sports steering wheel, the Sport Chrono Package with the new integrated Porsche Track Precision App or the BOSE® Surround Sound System are on board from the factory.
