Iconic logos GTA and GTAm adorn the overalls worn by Kimi Räikkönen and Antonio Giovinazzi, who are driving the Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN team at the Bahrain Grand Prix next weekend. Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm, the most powerful production vehicles in the history of the brand, are projects of the technical partnership between Alfa Romeo and the traditional Swiss racing team, Sauber. Both special models are reminiscent of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA from 1965.

Performance and racing are part of Alfa Romeo's DNA. The victory in May 1950 at the very first Formula 1 race in history was just one highlight in the history of the brand with the iconic Biscione coat of arms. The future world champion Nino Farina won the European Grand Prix in Silverstone at the wheel of the Alfa Romeo Gran Premio Tipo 158, better known as Alfetta. Around 71 years later, next Sunday (March 28), the Bahrain Grand Prix will open the FIA Formula 1 World Championship 2021.
Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN is sending the new C41 racing cars into the race with the driver duo Antonio Giovinazzi (Italy) and Kimi Räikkönen (Finland), who have not changed from last year. The overalls of the young rider from Martina Franca and the 2007 world champion are adorned with two legendary logos: GTA and GTAm. They stand for two high-performance special models of the current Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio, the name of which pays homage to the Alfa Romeo Giulia Gran Turismo Alleggerita from 1965. Under the abbreviations GTA and GTAm, the touring car celebrated countless victories on racetracks all over the world.
The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA / GTAm project has benefited greatly from the partnership with the Swiss team Sauber, the team behind Alfa Romeo Racing ORLEN. For example, Sauber Engineering provided know-how for the development of prototypes and the production of body components made of carbon fiber, which at Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA / GTAm ensure the aerodynamics of a racing car. These components include the front bumper, the side skirts, the diffuser under the rear bumper and the subtle rear spoiler of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA and the large rear wing of the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm.
Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Räikkönen were also actively involved in the project. The two Formula 1 drivers completed set-up drives at the Alfa Romeo test site in Balocco (Italy). They concentrated on the specific solutions for aerodynamics and driving behavior. They thoroughly analyzed all modifications made to both special models and reported their impressions to the engineering team. Formula 1 drivers and technicians worked together to fine-tune the vehicle dynamics. This video gives an impression of the Balocco test by Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Räikkönen in the most powerful Alfa Romeo production vehicle of all time:
