Now the "R" is even crazier! The Ariel Motor Company tightened the moving space frame with a more powerful engine and lots of other performance changes. Since 2015, the British niche manufacturer has had the Nomad as the second vehicle in its range alongside the Atom and now the lightweight runabout is getting a significant technical upgrade and more power. Does he need that? Not really! Was it a good decision anyway? Naturally! The previous model had a 2,4-liter four-cylinder from Honda on board, which with 240 hp and 300 Nm torque, in view of the low curb weight of only 670 kg, had no problems. From a standing start there were acceleration values the size of a super sports car and actually that was all more than enough. Actually…

340 PS and 330 Nm torque

Because then towards the end of 2015 came the supercharged version with 294 hp and 340 Nm of torque. With this variant, there was another award in every respect. Everything one more number faster and everything one more number more radical. But now there should be even more power. Much more. Because now there is the Nomad R without the 2,4-liter Honda K24 four-cylinder, but with the 2,0-liter K20Z3 VTEC engine from the "old" Honda Civic Type R. However, the engine has the in-house Ariel -Compressor donated. The result is 340 hp at 7.600 rpm and 330 Nm of torque at 5.500 rpm. The Nomad R catapults the two occupants to country road speed in just 2,9 seconds and the propulsion is not stopped up to a top speed of 195 km / h.

intended for the asphalt - just for that?

In contrast to the "normal" Nomad, the Nomad R is intended more for the racetrack and not for off-piste use. This is evident from the built-in 18-inch model with 235/40 Yokohama Advan tires and the built-in sports suspension with Bilstein dampers (optional Öhlins) is designed for paved roads due to the significantly tighter set-up. In our opinion, it doesn't really speak much against a second wheel set with off-road slippers. The Ariel Nomad R 2021 should also have a lot of driving fun on a gravel road.

Sadev six-speed sequential gearbox

Incidentally, the model 2021 retains the sequential Sadev six-speed transmission from the Atom V8 and Atom 3.5R and the lightweight is braked with a four-piston braking system from Alcon front and rear. The rather extensive list of optional extras also includes new lightweight bucket seats or a rear axle limited slip differential. And we would be back with the idea of the gravel track. Incidentally, the new model has a small catch: There will only be five copies of the Nomad R, 3 of which have already been sold and the price of around 88.000 euros including tax is, as expected, high.
