A drag race of the 600 hp Audi Avant RS6 (C8) against the 571 hp Audi S8 (D5) sounds interesting, doesn't it? This is exactly what the CarWow team has now done. They wanted to know whether the large Audi sedan can keep up with the fast station wagon (Avant)? The Audi RS6 and the S8 luxury sedan both have a fat V8 under the hood. In the RS6, the bi-turbo engine is combined with a 48-volt hybrid system and performs well 600 PS (440 kilowatts) and 800 Newtonmeter torque. The engine is coupled to a 8-speed automatic transmission and of course the all-wheel drive four.

And the S8? It's "just" an S-vehicle and not an "RS". And that's why it's weaker on paper. Its 4,0-liter BiTurbo V8 "only" 571 PS (420 kW), but also 800 Newtonmeter torque. And the S8 even has the 48-volt mild hybrid setup of the RS6 and of course the quattro four-wheel drive. This means that the difference in the drivetrain between the S and the RS is very small. The clearest difference is made by the curb weight!

About Thomas Wachsmuth

Thomas Wachsmuth - He has been an integral part of tuningblog.eu since 2013. His passion for cars is so intense that he invests every available penny in them. While he dreams of a BMW E31 850CSI and a Hennessey 6x6 Ford F-150, he currently drives a rather inconspicuous BMW 540i (G31/LCI). His collection of books, magazines and brochures on the subject of car tuning has now reached such proportions that he himself has become a walking reference work for the tuning scene.  More about Thomas
