The four intertwined rings are the trademark of Audi. It symbolizes the merger of four previously independent motor vehicle manufacturers that took place on June 29, 1932: Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer. They are the roots of today's AUDI AG. On June 1932, 29, on the initiative of the Saxon State Bank, what was then Audiwerke AG, Horchwerke AG and Zschopauer Motorenwerke JS Rasmussen AG (DKW) merged to form Auto Union AG. At the same time, a purchase and lease agreement is concluded with Wanderer Werke AG to take over the Wanderer automobile department; The new group is based in Chemnitz, with administration located in the DKW plant in Zschopau until 1936. With its founding, Auto Union AG becomes the second largest motor vehicle group in Germany. The company signet shows four intertwined rings, which stand for the indissoluble unity of the four founding companies. The new company will retain the brand names Audi, DKW, Horch and Wanderer.

Each of the four brands is responsible for a specific market segment within the Group: DKW is active in the area of motorcycles and small cars, Wanderer builds and sells mid-range automobiles, Audi brings automobiles in the upper mid-range segment onto the market and Horch stands for luxury and upper class automobiles. The Audi history and the history of automobile construction can still be experienced today: on the one hand in the August Horch Museum in Zwickau (https://www.horch-museum.de/) and on the other hand also in the Audi museum mobile in Ingolstadt. The special exhibition "The Fifth Ring" can be seen there until September 24th - it tells the story of NSU, the oldest predecessor brand of today's AUDI AG. If you want to visit the Audi museum mobile from the comfort of your own home or on the go, you can do so at any time using the Audi Tradition app; it can be downloaded from all common app stores for iOS and Android smartphones.
