Autobianchi

Autobianchi was an Italian automobile brand. It was based in Milan and had a factory in Desio that existed from 1955 to 1995. Autobianchi was founded by Eduardo Bianchi at the end of the 19th century and, for financial reasons, was unable to start producing automobiles on its own after the Second World War. In that year, a cooperation with Fiat and Pirelli came about. In 1968 the company became the sole property of Fiat. Delivery of the first Autobianchi model, the Bianchina, began in 1958. It became famous in the 60s with the Primula and Giardiniera as well as a new technology that combined front-wheel drive and transverse engine. The A112 became the brand's most successful model and was even available from Abarth. Outside Italy, the A112 was the last Autobianchi model. Under the direction of Lancia, the switch to the Lancia brand took place and the result was the Lancia Y10. At the end of 1995, Lancia completely discontinued the Autobianchi brand.
