As a traditional Italian brand, Abarth is mainly known from current Fiat models with more power. It all started with the carburetor and exhaust systems that the Austrian motorcyclist Karl "Carlo" Abarth had been developing in Bologna since 1949. Shortly afterwards, the company's headquarters were relocated to Turin. Next to Tuning kits Abarth also built its own sports car prototypes in small numbers for the Fiat 500, 600, 1100 or Multipla. The small company relies on external designers such as Allemano, Ellena, Boano Ghia, Vignale Pininfarina, Bertone and Zagato. And a rather unknown one is Sibona Basano from Turin. In 1962 Pietro Sibona and the brothers Elio and Emilio Basano founded the company.

COOPERATION: ABRTH & SIMCA

A large order from Bizarrini to produce at least 100 vehicles of the 5300 GT Spyder only resulted in two prototypes.

RACING HISTORY IN ITALY

RM Sotheby's offered one yesterday (November 19th) in Le Castellet, France 1963 Abarth-Simca 1300 GT at. It is part of the Guikas collection and was handed over to its first Italian owner Renato Arfè on May 29, 1963. Four days later he used the blue sports car at the Coppa Consuma and finished sixth in the overall standings and 22nd overall. The following year he finished eighth in his class and 24th overall at the Coppa Gran Turismo Imola. In 1964 he lent the car to racing drivers who even achieved third place in their class and sixth overall in the Imola Coppa GT1.3. On June 13, 1966, he exchanged his 1300 GT for a new one at Abarth Abarth Fiat 1300 OT a. The engine and gearbox moved from the Abarth Simca in a long-nose body at the end of the XNUMXs.

NO RESERVE BID AT RM SOTHEBY'S

They received the chassis number of the original, so that no new registration was required. However, there is a second car with the chassis number 0091. The difference between the two cars lies in the respective production number, which can also be used to prove that the car offered here actually has racing history. The private racing team Autotecnica Conrero acquired the 1300 GT in 1967. The car was bought by Dario Cuppini six years later. The car was in the Maranello Rosso Museum between 1978 and 2014. Then Mr. Guikas bought the Abarth patinated without making any changes. RM Sotheby's started yesterday with no minimum bid and brought in 275.000 euros.
