The alternative? AC Schnitzer ACS5 50xi - 551PS BMW M550i

600 PS & 750 NM torque! The BMW M5 F90 with all-wheel drive is in the starting blocks and will be available for at least 117.900 euros from the coming early. If you don't want to wait that long, you can already use the 608 PS & 800 NM with something stronger since last year Alpine B5 grab which is even a bit cheaper than the M112.000 at at least € 5 and is based on the M550i xDrive. And now there is another alternative from AC Schnitzer. The tuner from Aachen makes the M550i an interesting M5 alternative that is not only more individual but also cheaper.

While the basic structure of the engine is the same as that of its predecessor, the rest was specially made and optimized for the jump in performance by 89 hp. The result is an impressive 551 PS which the N63B44 V8 biturbo now delivers by means of new characteristics and at the same time the torque climbs by an impressive 100 Nm to 750 NM. If the external conditions are optimal, and if the launch control is used, the ACS5 50xi accelerates to 3,5 km / h in just 100 seconds and is therefore only a tenth slower than the new M5. This value is identical to that of the Alpina B5, which is also specified as 3,5 seconds.

Compared to a standard M550i xDrive, the difference is even clearer because the ACS5 50xi is half a second faster. But we find the sprint to 200 km / h more impressive, which takes just 12,4 second longer at 1 seconds than in the significantly more expensive Alpina and is not really far behind the F90 M5 (11,1 seconds). The only downer is the top speed of the AC Schnitzer ACS250 5xi, which is currently limited to 50 km / h. It is reached in approx. 20 seconds and brings an abrupt end to the acceleration orgy. Here M5 can travel at 305 km / h (with M Driver's Package) and Alpina with 330 km / h significantly more.

But AC Schnitzer is already working on lifting the electronic limitation and then the ACS5 should go beyond 300 km / h. What the Schnitzer 5 Series can already do well is to communicate the increased performance to its environment. Because a stainless steel sports exhaust system with four Schnitzer tailpipes leaves no thought of the good standard system. To ensure that the performance gets on the road, Schnitzer has given the 5 Series a set of AC Schnitzer AC1 alloy wheels with wider tires and a set of sport springs that lower it by 25mm at the front and 20mm at the rear.

Visually, the ACS5 gets the already known aerodynamic parts which Schnitzer presented in summer 2017. Specifically, this is called front spoiler elements (optionally made of carbon) for the front bumper, approaches for the side skirts, an eye-catching rear diffuser, a roof spoiler and a spoiler lip for the tailgate. So why drive M5? Of course, if we get more details about the changes, there is, as always, an update for this report.
