It's no surprise that shortly after LCI of the current BMW 3 series Alpina has also generously revised its 3-series models. The new visual features of the 3 Series facelift, especially the modified front end, give the car a more angular look. The brand new Alpina aerodynamic components at the front and rear emphasize the new shape and give the models an independent appearance. With Melbourne Red, Brooklyn Gray and Skyscraper Gray there are now three further BMW and BMW Individual paint finishes to choose from, in addition to the in-house traditional paint finishes Alpina Blue and Alpina Green.

As expected, the latest BMW iDrive generation can be found in the interior, including a large curved display. Thanks to a revised engine management system, the 3,0 liter in-line six-cylinder engine in the Alpina B3 can now produce 364 kW (495 PS) (plus 24 kW / 33 hp) and a maximum torque of 730 Nm (plus 30 Nm). In comparison, the M3 Competition "only" offers 510 hp and 650 Nm. An 8-speed sports automatic transmission is always on board. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h takes just 3,6 seconds and the top speed of the B3 sedan is 305 km/h. The Touring reaches a speed of 100 km/h in just 3,7 seconds and can go up to 302 km/h to drive fast.

The D3 S is the perfect combination of two worlds - excellent response at low revs and pronounced revving. The maximum torque of 730 Nm is achieved in combination with 261 kW (355 hp). The saloon reaches 100 km/h in 4,6 seconds, the Touring a little later at 4,8 seconds. Average fuel consumption (WLTP): 6,9 liters per 100 kilometers. Top speed: the saloon reaches 273 km/h, the touring is slightly slower at 270 km/h. The brand new BMW ALPINA 3 Series models can be ordered now and are expected to be delivered in October 2022. The D3 S sedan will cost 77.050 euros, the D3 S Touring is slightly more expensive at 78.450 euros. The B3 Sedan will be priced at €88.600 and the Touring is the most expensive model at €89.900.

A new era will start for the BMW ALPINA B2023 from model year 3 – with a revised drive, new exterior design and the latest BMW innovations in the areas of digitization and connectivity.

POWER & TORQUE
3,0 LITER IN-LINE SIX-CYLINDER ENGINE WITH BI-TURBO CHARGING

With a revised motor control, the drive of the BMW ALPINA B3 models represents a new technological evolutionary stage. The drive benefits from a performance increase of 24 kW (33 hp) and 30 Nm additional torque for the model revision. The drive now draws an output of 3,0 kW (364 hp) from a displacement of 495 liters with two ALPINA-specific mono-scroll turbochargers and has a maximum torque of 730 Nm. The sedan reaches a speed of 3,6 km/h in just 100 seconds*. The Touring completes this sprint in 3,7 seconds*. The top speed is 305 km/h* for the saloon and 302 km/h* for the Touring.

The basic BMW S58 engine achieves the typical ALPINA engine characteristics through numerous structural adjustments, which are characterized by a decidedly effortless performance and power development in the entire speed range. Flow-optimized ALPINA-specific turbine housings make it possible to effectively convert exhaust gas energy into boost pressure even at low engine speeds, and the large intercoolers increase the efficiency of the charging system. Thanks to a cross-section-optimized intake air duct with a large-volume intake silencer, the engine is exceptionally revving and offers a lot of pulling power. The ALPINA high-performance cooling system with two external coolant coolers, cross-section-optimized cooling air ducts and a powerful main cooling package with a 1.000 watt electric fan ensures thermal stability.

The sovereign character of the drive comes into its own in interaction with the 8-speed sports automatic transmission. The ZF 8HP76 transmission was specially tuned to the high-torque drive, including reinforcement of the torque converter and the wheelset assembly. Shifting comfort and pronounced shifting dynamics are characteristic of the transmission of the BMW ALPINA B3 models.

The ALPINA stainless steel exhaust system offers a wide pipe diameter in the exhaust system, which reduces the exhaust back pressure. Catalytic converters close to the engine as well as underbody catalytic converters and two large-volume petrol particle filters take care of exhaust gas purification. The new BMW ALPINA B3 models are homologated according to the latest Euro 6d-ISC-FCM emissions standard. The consumption value determined according to the new, more realistic WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light-Duty Vehicles Test Procedure) measurement method is 10,1 l/100 km, corresponding to 229 g/km CO2**.

PRECISION, AGILITY, DYNAMICS THE ALPINA SPORT CHASSIS

The unique driving experience of the BMW ALPINA B3 models is largely characterized by the ALPINA-specific sports suspension. With variable damper control, the ALPINA engineers have realized a wide range between comfortable gliding and sporty, precise handling. Four driving modes are available: COMFORT+, COMFORT, SPORT and SPORT+. The precision and agility that characterize the handling are due on the one hand to the variable sports steering with ALPINA tuning and on the other hand to the special configuration of the springs and stabilizers. Eibach springs, auxiliary springs and stabilizers with ALPINA-specific tuning ensure harmonious roll control.

TRACTION & COMFORT WHEELS & TIRES

The fully variable all-wheel drive and the standard rear axle locking differential, in combination with the tailor-made tires, enable a very high level of traction. The ALPINA engineers, in cooperation with the Pirelli tire experts, have developed model-specific tires for both the standard ALPINA DYNAMIC 19" cast wheels* in a 5×4 spoke design and the optional ALPINA CLASSIC 20" forged wheels** in a 20-spoke design - to be recognized by the manufacturer identification ALP on the sidewall of the tyre. Through the use of materials that are reserved for the ultra-high-performance area, there are high safety reserves with a sporty driving style.

Meanwhile, the tires are characterized by high comfort qualities. The ALPINA brake system with 4-piston fixed calipers on the front axle and floating calipers on the rear axle ensures excellent deceleration. A high-performance brake system with perforated brake discs measuring Ø 395 mm at the front and Ø 345 mm at the rear is optionally available, which, in conjunction with special brake pads, ensures high fading stability and sporty pedal feedback.

PROGRESSIVE DESIGN & EQUIPMENT

The revised exterior design underlines the sporty character of the BMW ALPINA B3 models. The ALPINA aerodynamic components at the front and rear take up the new, progressive shape and give the BMW ALPINA B3 models a unique appearance. In addition to the traditional ALPINA paint finishes ALPINA Blue and ALPINA Green, there are a number of BMW and BMW Individual paint finishes available, including Melbourne Red, Brooklyn Gray and Skyscraper Gray with immediate effect. In the interior, the latest generation of the iDrive operating system and new digital services demonstrate the progressive aspirations of the new model generation.

The BMW Operating System 8 provides the technological basis in combination with intuitive operating options such as the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant. The degree of personalization options for the displays has reached a new level - including the head-up display with optimized graphics. In accordance with the BMW design principle "Eyes on the road - Hands on the wheel", all displays offer consistent driver orientation. Third-party app integration works seamlessly. The central control display grows to 14,9" and merges with the digital instrument cluster in a curved display to form a single unit. The displays are in the ALPINA brand colors of blue and green.

The digital vehicle view in the control display now offers a detailed depiction of the ALPINA exterior features. With the model revision, the range of standard equipment is also growing. The LED headlights with extended features in the new design are now part of the standard, as is the interior and exterior mirror package with automatic dimming function. The in-house ALPINA upholstery shop enables extensive customization of the interior. The naturally tanned LAVALINA leather, which marks its own quality level, is used by master craftsmen to create unique interiors that reflect the customer's wishes down to the last detail. The new BMW ALPINA B3 models can be ordered now and are expected to be available from October 2022. The recommended retail price including 19% VAT ex works Buchloe is:

  • BMW ALPINA B3 Sedan: 88.600 euros
  • BMW ALPINA B3 Touring: 89.900 euros
