1.200 HP Hypercar: Ariel Hipercar with Electric Motors & Microturbine!

Great Britain, and England in particular, is known for small series manufacturers who compete for the attention of solvent customers. In addition to the legendary kitcars, there are also various manufacturers that produce fully assembled vehicles in small series. They are subject to simplified registration regulations than those of large automotive groups. And in Great Britain in particular there are simplifications when registering a vehicle if it comes from a small series manufacturer. This makes it possible for these factories to survive. You do not necessarily need the technology and safety equipment that is required by large-scale manufacturers in order to register a vehicle regularly.

the Hipercar is in the prototype stage

One such manufacturer, who only handcrafts a few hundred copies a year, is Ariel Motors. The sports car manufacturer became known for the ultra-light roadster made of an exoskeleton called Atom. It weighs just under 500 kilograms and thus has the driving performance of a hypercar on the road. And now the British car manufacturer is presenting a second sports car project that has a conventional body with roof and doors has. We would like to introduce this vehicle to you in more detail.

An Ariel with roof, doors & body!

  • max to 880 kW (1.196 hp) and 1.800 Nm
  • 750 volt architecture
  • Lithium Ion Battery
  • Range up to 240 kilometers
  • Chassis made of glued aluminum elements
  • Aluminum subframe
  • Independent suspension all around (fully adjustable spring elements)
  • Forged aluminum rims or carbon rims
  • Single speed gearbox
  • under 1.500 kilograms are planned

Extreme purists will only have one word on their lips: "Shocking"! The model has nothing in common with the Atom Roadster, as it looks more like an Alfa Romeo RZ Zagato that has been pimped up a bit. the Fastback body looks sporty and stylish, but has nothing in common with the well-known Ariel models. Despite the full body you continue to rely on radical design elements, such as a huge diffuser, vertical Trim and Splitter all around. Also a Roofscoop on the roof is a must. One fin at the rear as well as the brutal vertical ones Trim at the rear, testify to the true character of the car. the side skirts are also designed in such a way that they can be used as an entry aid in the driver-orientated Cabin serve, which is difficult to board. Thus, the fully disguised super sports car name remains Hipercar, a true Ariel in character.

Four electric motors ensure breathtaking driving performance!

1.200 hp from four electric motors, each placed on a wheel, provide an acceleration of 0 to 100 km/h in about 2 seconds. Thanks to an integrated microturbine, which delivers 35 KW, insane driving performance should be possible. For example, the vehicle reaches 160 km/h from a standstill in less than 4 seconds. A 56 kWh battery feeds the four electric motors, which were placed on the wheels. Due to the turbine, however, it will be possible in the future to install a hydrogen range extender as a drive in the Hipercar, for example, so that it is not exclusively dependent on e-mobility. On top of that, there is currently a KERS system, which works in a similar way to Formula 1, is in the testing phase. Unfortunately, we do not know anything about the maximum speed.

Our verdict on the hypercar from the UK:

We are surprised that a small series manufacturer is trying to push ahead with new technologies. Hopefully Ariel will be able to mass produce the developments to send important signals to established and larger supercar manufacturers. If we get more information about the changes, there is of course an update for this report. You will be informed about this if you simply use our Feed subscribe to.
