A super SUV with 707 hp: the Aston Martin DBX707

The new DBX707 is an SUV like no other. With it, Aston Martin is presenting a top model in its class that boasts breathtaking performance, outstanding driving dynamics, unmistakable design and pure luxury. The DBX707 combines a striking character and impressive performance values to create the ultimate SUV. The fastest, most powerful and best-driving SUV. Three outstanding characteristics that the creators of the DBX707 sought to give to this vehicle - not with a fixed view of pure performance values, but holistically and completely in the spirit of a unique car. Aston Martin aimed for a coherent total package, where the overwhelming power and speed of this SUV meets superior precision and dynamic elegance, captivating the driver and offering an addictive, unique driving experience. A fine, sharpened saber in a segment full of sledgehammers.

Aston Martin DBX707

  • The DBX707 sets new standards in terms of performance and driving pleasure
  • As the top model in its class, the DBX707 is now an Aston Martin at the top of the SUV segment
  • The unique 4-litre V8 developed by Aston Martin delivers 707 hp and 900 Nm of torque
  • The engine, transmission, chassis and brakes have been extensively revised for this model
  • Technical highlights are the new 9-speed gearbox with wet clutch and the 420 mm carbon brakes
  • In addition to the performance, the new design inspires respect
  • Deliveries are expected to begin in the second quarter of 2

The DBX707 builds on the acclaimed design, dynamics and driver-friendliness of the V8 DBX, which provided an excellent blueprint with its authentic sportiness. The model has been optimized in every detail for maximum performance, intense driving pleasure and even greater presence on the road. Tobias Moers, Aston Martin's CEO, says of the DBX707: “The DBX already showed what dynamics and design means for Aston Martin. He was proof that not all SUVs have to follow the same pattern. With the DBX707, we've pushed the limit in every area to set a new benchmark in performance and excitement. It's the fastest, most powerful, most beautiful to drive and most immersive car in its class, putting Aston Martin at the forefront of the SUV segment.”

Starting with the powertrain, Aston Martin engineers looked for ways to unleash the full potential of the DBX's twin-turbo 4-litre V8 engine. Under the direction of Ralph Illenberger, Senior Vice President Powertrain, the DBX707's engine was ball bearing turbocharged and custom calibrated for more power and torque. Also new in Aston Martin's SUV flagship is the automatic 9-speed gearbox with wet clutch. This high-performance transmission can withstand significantly higher torque than those with a conventional automatic torque converter and extracts an incredible 4 hp and 8 Nm from the 707-litre V900 - 157 hp and 200 Nm more than the DBX (V8).

The new wet clutch also brings other benefits, most notably the faster gear changes compared to a transmission with a torque converter. The gear changes feel more direct, so the driver feels that the car responds better to his interventions. All this gives the DBX707 a character that clearly distinguishes it from the DBX (V8). The starting behavior has also been improved and allows the DBX707 to accelerate from 3,3 to 0 in 100 seconds. Aston Martin's Head of Powertrain, Ralph Illenberger, said: “This new model really pushes the DBX to the max. The result is a top SUV that is second to none. The enormous increase in output and torque not only shows what the 4-liter twin-turbo V8 is capable of, but also that Aston Martin wants to and can uncompromisingly push the limits of what is technically possible. The combination of the phenomenal engine and the new 707-speed gearbox with wet clutch is central to the outstanding performance profile and the incomparable character of the DBX9.”

The standard carbon-ceramic brakes also make a significant contribution to the improved performance. Their brake discs have a width of 420 mm (front) and 390 mm (rear), are actuated by six-piston brake calipers and save 40,5 kg in unsprung mass thanks to carbon ceramic. An optimized hydraulic switching system and a tuned brake booster improve the feeling for the brake pedal, make the brakes more responsive and thus ensure more precision and reliable braking performance for the driver. For better cooling of the brakes, both the main cooling air supply and the flow from the underbody are now used. The high-performance brake pads also offer extraordinarily high friction at a wide range of temperatures.

In the basic configuration, customers can choose from 22-inch rims in the “Sport” and “Ribbon” designs. The optional 23-inch wheels are available in a textured black or satin black finish with a diamond-turned finish. In addition to the optics, the 23-inch wheels also bring advantages for driving dynamics, because the larger diameter improves the response behavior of the steering, the primary stabilization and the lap times. The DBX707 also features a new version of the electronic rear differential lock (E-Diff). It handles the full 900Nm of torque from the engine and has a shorter overall gear ratio of 8 (previously 3,27) compared to the DBX V3,07. As a result, the DBX707 accelerates more vigorously in the lower gears and is more responsive when in gear, without sacrificing the efficiency and smoothness of the 9-speed transmission.

Torque distribution between the front and rear axles is still fully automatic. If necessary, however, the full torque can also be transferred completely to the rear axle. The careful calibration of the E-Diff gives the DBX707 the cornering ability, the sporty driving experience and the dynamics of a real sports car, which, thanks to its chassis and drive technology, behaves in a balanced way and always finds the perfect combination of traction and agility. The secret of the DBX707's exceptional handling is its three-chamber air suspension. Its basic structure is the same as that of the DBX V8, which itself is already considered the best-handling SUV on the market. Furthermore, the DBX707 has a specially adjusted chassis that meets the special requirements of this car without compromise.

The DBX707's suspension features new damper valving and recalibrated dynamically switchable air springs that improve vehicle control and steering response. The electric power steering system has also been optimized for a better steering feel: the resistance now increases more when turning, allowing the driver to estimate the cornering power and the available road grip more precisely. Furthermore, the DBX707 handles the driving dynamics forces even better: pitching (vertical vibrations when driving over bumps and couplings or lowering), bobbing (when the car leans when braking and accelerating) and rolling. This allows the driver to more easily control vehicle yaw with natural pedal and steering wheel inputs. The eARC, the electronic active anti-roll control system, has also undergone minor adjustments: it now gives the driver an even stronger feeling of agility and also improves the dynamic stability of the car.

The changes and improvements to the dynamic driving modes also prove that the focus of the DBX707 is on the driver. The "Race Start" that can be selected in the "GT", "Sport" and "Sport+" modes delivers maximum acceleration from a standing start - an impressive demonstration of the additional power. Improved logic in the transfer case of the all-wheel drive system improves coordination and control accuracy between the drive and ESP, creating a more natural sports car feeling.

Drummond Jacoy, Aston Martin's Head of Vehicle Engineering and Procurement, recalls the development phase: "Our engineers faced enormous challenges on the way to the ultimate SUV. Unfortunately, there is a certain addiction to clumsy, aggressive power in this vehicle class. With the DBX707, on the other hand, we wanted to balance extremely high performance with perfect controllability and precision, while at the same time infusing it with the sports car soul that defines all other Aston Martins. To do this, we took an uncompromising look at the car all around. Engine, transmission, chassis, brakes, electronics and aerodynamics - we have subjected everything to comprehensive optimization and fine-tuned it. The result is a vehicle that sets new standards and sets the DBX a step further above the competition in its class.”

In the DBX707, the driver should enjoy full control. This is made possible, among other things, by the new buttons for selecting the driving mode, which are located on the redesigned lower center console. As a result, the most important dynamic driving modes and settings can be accessed directly and no longer have to be called up in a submenu in the infotainment system. The suspension mode and the ESP have their own buttons, and switching between manual and automatic switching is also immediate. What is also new here is that the car remains in manual mode, which is typical of a sports car, and does not switch back to automatic by itself. In addition, the driver can determine at the push of a button whether the flaps of the sports exhaust system with its four tailpipes should be open without having to be in sports mode.

The DBX707 was not only technically extensively optimized, the interior and exterior design were also thoroughly revised. The result is a spectacular vehicle that exudes sportiness while embodying the style and attention to detail that Aston Martin is justly famous for. At the front, the DBX has a larger grille and completely redesigned daytime running lights, new air intakes and ducts for brake cooling, and a new front splitter profile. The high-performance V8 and the new 9-speed gearbox are supplied with additional cooling air by the now significantly larger grid-shaped radiator grille in satin chrome. Visually, this top SUV also stands out due to the horizontal grille slats, which are now divided.

Dark satin chrome window surrounds and new louvered hood vents complement the gloss black grille and splitter. On the flanks are the now even more distinctively shaped side skirts, also glossy black, which also visually emphasize the excellent road holding of the DBX707. In addition, the new soft-close doors underline the luxury claim of this car.

The facelift at the rear is no less dramatic. The new spoiler edge on the roof wing not only increases the aesthetic value, but also improves aerodynamics by reducing lift and increasing stability at high speeds. The double diffuser placed higher is now significantly larger, matching the new exhaust system with now four extra large tailpipes, which, optically coordinated with the glossy black diffuser, are painted in satin black and produce a very unique, characteristic sound. Completing the redesigned rear end is a new rear bumper and side panel louvers, which together underscore the DBX707's muscular stance.

Mark Reichman, Chief Creative Officer of Aston Martin, added: “A car with such superior driving dynamics as the DBX707 gives its driver an incredible level of safety and confidence on the road. This is exactly the feeling we wanted to capture with the design. As the alpha of SUVs, the DBX707 doesn't have to prove anything to anyone with overly flashy looks. Accordingly, we've focused on the spots that make it immediately recognizable as the best-performing model. Of course, some of the customizations are driven by functional considerations, notably the grille opening, rear spoiler and optional 23-inch wheels. However, other modifications (such as the side skirts or the rear bumper) are aimed at expressing the enormous performance of the DBX707 and creating a more aggressive, muscular appearance. The result is a design that exudes punch while remaining true to clean lines and perfect proportions. In the DBX707, brutal performance meets the beauty and elegance inherent in Aston Martin DNA.”

In the interior, too, it does justice to the sporty character with standard sports seats, which can be replaced with comfort seats on request and at no extra charge. All seat variants are 16-way electrically adjustable and are equipped with seat heating as standard on the front and rear seats. When it comes to the design of the passenger compartment, there is a choice between the standard variant "Accelerate", a mixture of leather and Alcantara®, and the optional equipment variants "Inspire Comfort" and "Inspire Sport" with semi-aniline leather and embroidered Aston Martin wing emblems on the headrest , a contrast stripe running down the middle of the seat and perforated patterns in the backrest and in the upholstery of the seat.

Matching the exterior, the buttons in the interior have a dark chrome finish as standard. Bright chrome and carbon can also be optionally selected here. The veneer inlays are in the basic model in the color “piano black”; A carbon or bronze grid pattern is also possible as a finish for an additional charge. As the culmination of personalization, Aston Martin also offers its customers the "Q by Aston Martin" service, with which the DBX707 can be configured as an absolutely unique specimen. There are a number of options to choose from - from unique graphics to colored carbon to desired materials for the inside and outside. For a "Q by Aston Martin - Commission" car, Aston Martin responds to the most diverse wishes and creates a vehicle according to the customer's ideas.

The new flagship of the DBX series has the best qualifications to win numerous awards like the first SUV from Aston Martin (very successful with 3.000 orders in the first year). These included being recognized as “Best Luxury SUV” at the GQ Car Awards, as “Super SUV of the Year” by Top Gear, and repeated wins in the “Best Super Luxury SUV” category at the PR Arabia National Auto Awards. Production of the DBX707 is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2022, with first deliveries expected in the second quarter of 2022.
