Skysphere & Co: Audi Concept Cars - Spheres with high-tech

With three innovative concept cars, Audi will illustrate in the coming months how the brand intends to shape the future of the luxury class. The common root word “sphere” in their model names emphasizes the focus of all three designs on the new interior concept and the holistic digital ecosystem for a new world of experience on board. The trio will begin in August 2021 with the spectacular Audi skysphere concept study with its first public appearance as part of the Monterey Car Week in California, USA. A few weeks later, the second concept car, the Audi grandsphere, will celebrate its public premiere at the IAA 2021. The Audi urbansphere concept will follow as the third show car in the first half of 2022.

“These concept vehicles are an embodiment of our brand strategy. They show how we envision the near future of premium mobility, ”says Henrik Wenders, Head of the Audi brand. For him, the future is a creative space to offer people new experiences while driving. Audi calls this redesigned vehicle interior, which surrounds the passengers, the “Sphere”. With the transition to electromobility and, in a few years, to automated driving (level 4), this area of ​​the automobile is changing more than ever before in the past few decades. And with the interior, the architecture of the space, a new overall concept of the automobile is created, in which the interior becomes the design core of new vehicles. A digital ecosystem should enable personalized services beyond the vehicle.

The three concept vehicles skysphere, grandsphere and urbansphere interpret this paradigm shift in design in different ways - decidedly dynamic, representative or created for use on long journeys. In any case, the needs and quality of experience of the occupants are at the top of the specifications of the three studies. Technological innovations as well as the highest quality of materials and workmanship surround the occupants in all areas. You enjoy the freedom on board to drive yourself or - wherever possible - to simply decouple yourself from traffic, surroundings and overstimulation in a fully automated automobile. Instead, the interior becomes a space for relaxation, networking or even active communication.

In contrast to the vision vehicles such as Audi AI: CON and AI: ME, the new show cars do not want to look into a distant future. Rather, they present lines, technologies and spaces of experience that will be found in the first Audi brand series cars as early as the mid-2020s.
