For the first time, AUDI AG will appear at Auto Shanghai 2021 with two partners at a joint exhibition stand. Audi is sending four world premieres to the starting line with its Chinese partner companies FAW and SAIC: the brand new concept vehicle Audi A6 e-tron concept and the completely renewed Audi Q5L; to the Audi A7L and an SUV study still wrapped in camouflage film with the name Audi concept Shanghai - the first two products from the new partner SAIC Audi.

Audi is consistently taking the next steps towards realignment in China. A clear focus on electric mobility, a new production site for electric vehicles in Changchun and a second partnership with SAIC Motor Corporation - these are the guidelines with which Audi will implement the China strategy of the future. “We are actively driving the change towards sustainable mobility in China. With the new constellation, we are creating the perfect foundation for this and strategically realigning Audi's business in China, ”says Markus Duesmann, Chairman of the Board of Management of AUDI AG.

At the end of 2020, the company had already announced the founding of Audi FAW NEV Co. Together with the long-term joint venture partner FAW, Audi is currently building a completely new automobile plant specifically for the future generation of electrically powered models based on the new technology platform PPE. The first series automobiles for the Chinese market are expected to roll off the production line in Changchun from 2024.

Cooperation with the SAIC Motor Corporation

Audi is also expanding its presence in China with a second partnership. The cooperation with the SAIC Motor Corporation starts this year with production at the Shanghai Volkswagen plant in Anting / Shanghai.

Werner Eichhorn, President of Audi China, emphasized at the press conference: “Together with our long-term partner FAW, we have successfully built up our business in China over three decades. Together with FAW and our second cooperation partner SAIC, we are now starting a new phase of growth. Partnerships with which we will continue our successful course in Audi's largest market. "

At Auto Shanghai, Audi is giving an outlook on the specific developments of the future with four world premieres:

The Audi A6 show car e-tron concept shows for the first time what a car can look like on the PPE platform, which is exclusively reserved for electric cars: an elegant and dynamic 4,96 meter long Sportback with a 100 kWh battery for a range of more than 700 kilometers (according to WLTP standard). The future series version will be built in Europe and China and will be offered worldwide. The 800 volt technology on board enables particularly fast charging - it takes just 10 minutes to recharge energy for 300 km.

With the new Audi Q5L presented in Shanghai, the brand is now completing the product range upgrade in the version with a long wheelbase. The successful SUV will continue to be built at the Changchun plant in the FAW-VW joint venture.

Sedan Audi A7L & Audi concept Shanghai

The partner SAIC Audi is competing with two debutants at the home game in Shanghai - one of them with an electric drive, the other with powerful gasoline engines on board. The completely redesigned Audi A7L sedan, which will start production in the course of 2021, is already in the series outfit. Manufactured in Shanghai and reserved for the Chinese market, the Audi A7L combines the sporty genes of the A7 Sportback with the representative elegance of a large sedan. Innovative technologies such as Adaptive Air Suspension, rear-wheel steering and quattro permanent all-wheel drive are part of the range of the Audi A7L.

Still wrapped in camouflage film, SAIC Audi is showing the second debutant of the new program - an SUV study with the name Audi concept Shanghai. The production version of the all-electric, 4,87-meter-long automobile is to be unveiled in the second half of 2021.

In 1988 Audi was the first premium manufacturer to start local production in China as part of the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. To date, around 7 million vehicles have been delivered in China. Audi already produces in the FAW-VW joint venture at four locations in China, in Changchun, Foshan, Tianjin and Qingdao. In 2020, a total of 727.358 vehicles were sold in the People's Republic - this corresponds to an increase of 5,4 percent compared to the previous year. In the first quarter of 2021, Audi delivered 207.386 vehicles to customers in China.
