1969 Autobianchi A112 - a 58 hp small car!

The Autobianchi A112 in October 1969, in Germany at the beginning of 1970. The subsidiary brand of Fiat has existed since 1955 in cooperation with Pirelli. It was decisive for the diffusion of a technology that was new at the time - Front wheel drive with a transversely installed four-cylinder engine from the Austin Mini. In addition, many of the brand's models had a very large tailgate compared to other models. The brand stood for luxurious niche vehicles and was therefore also quite expensive. In 1968 Fiat then took over all shares Autobianchi. The Autobianchi A112, presented a year later, became the most successful model and was produced for seventeen years. It was technically superior to the Fiat 127 and anticipated a lot. The takeover of the brand was definitely worthwhile for the Fiat group.

Improvements to the Abarth department

Towards the end of 1977 with the Series IV, the vehicles outside of Italy were then referred to as Lancia A112. 1971 was a prototype of the Autobianchi A112 with 107 PS brought on the market. This was developed by the racing car and tuning company of Carlo Abarth. The department was slowed down, however, because the production costs for the prototype were too expensive. The sale would also have become expensive. The Abarth department had been taken over by Fiat and therefore had the authority to slow down the A112 Abarth project.

A package was then developed by Abarth, which the Increased displacement of the four-cylinder engine. This was previously 903 cubic centimeters and was on 985 elevated. Along with this improvement, there was also one Sports exhaust system as well as a twin carburettor added. The number of horsepower increased as a result 58. The normal Autobianchi A112 could only 38 - 49 PS exhibit. A cup for young drivers was even set up specifically for the Autobianchi A112. The car was mainly seen on rallies or hill climbs.

However, the development did not end there. There were other upgrades for that Interior, among other things Rev counter and more Additional Devices (Oil thermometer, manometer, ammeter). There was also a Three-spoke aluminum steering wheel and Sports Seats. In terms of color, the Autobianchi A112 was initially only available in red with a black bonnet. The Series II then offered more colors and one ex works Oil Cooler. The Series III followed in 1975. The engine was based in this series 1.075 cubic centimeters enlarged. As a result, it was now an achievement of 70 PS possible. Production ended in 1985. By then, 121.000 copies had been produced. This corresponded to a total production of 10% of the total series.
