In the video below, a comparison between two tuned vehicles is shown. A Ford Mustang with 860 hp and a BMW M3 with 850 hp. Both have received a significant performance boost through tuning parts and software optimization. But which of the two is faster on the quarter mile and in the rolling race? The Ford Mustang is equipped with a 5,0 liter V8 engine and a new supercharger that boosts performance to an impressive 860 hp and 902 Nm of torque. The vehicle has a six-speed manual gearbox and weighs 1.720 kg. On the other hand, there's the M3, with a 3,0-litre inline-six and a single turbo that's supposed to deliver up to 950hp and 1.100Nm of torque, but has been throttled for the competition as it's not racing on a groomed track. With a seven-speed automatic transmission, the M3 weighs approximately 1.595 kg.
BMW M3 vs Ford Mustang
The two vehicles appeared in several from the YouTube channel car wow organized races against each other. The Mustang won the first two races as the BMW struggled to put the enormous power onto the road. The Ford was sometimes able to gain a clear lead that the BMW could not catch up with. In the following races, however, the gap narrowed and the BMW was able to beat the Mustang in the last race.
Despite this, the Ford achieved the fastest quarter-mile time at 11,5 seconds, while the BMW needed 11,7 seconds. In the races without a standing start, the BMW had the edge. As soon as he accelerated, he was able to pull away from the Mustang. He also won the brake test. The comparison illustrates the enormous potential of both vehicles when they are optimized by tuning experts. However, it also becomes clear how crucial traction is in converting the available power into speed.
