For the anniversary: BMW brings back the motorsport emblem!

To mark its 50th anniversary, the classic "BMW Motorsport" emblem is returning - on request for BMW M automobiles and BMW models with the M Sport package. The start of a year full of product highlights and major appearances by the performance brand. On May 24, 2022, BMW M GmbH will be 50 years old. Already a quarter of a year earlier, the subsidiary of the BMW Group is setting an example for a sense of tradition and an anniversary spirit on its current products. Customers who opt for a BMW M automobile or a BMW model equipped with an M Sports package with a production date from March 2022 can have the front, rear and wheel hubs of their vehicle decorated with emblems based on the classic "BMW Motorsport" logo . As an alternative to the conventional BMW emblem, it signals a passion for racing and for the roots of the BMW M brand. This offer, unique in the history of BMW M, can be ordered from the end of January 2022.

In addition to the emblems, 2022 iconic and historically significant BMW M paintworks for selected models will be offered for selected series in the anniversary year 50. Style-defining colors such as Dakar yellow, fire orange, Daytona violet, Macao blue, Imola red or Frozen Marina Bay Blue refer to the various eras of the 50-year history of BMW M.

The BMW logo with the offset semicircles in blue, purple and red was used for the first time in 1973 on the racing cars of BMW Motorsport GmbH, which was established the year before. It was not until 1978, and with the debut of the BMW M1, that the three colored stripes, inclined to the right and leaning against the letter M, followed, which to this day are a trademark with a particularly high recognition value and high identification power even beyond the motorsport scene. The legendary BMW M1 was the only BMW M high-performance production vehicle that featured the historic motorsport emblem in addition to the logo with the three colored stripes.

How to change the emblem!

In both logos, the blue stands for BMW, while the red symbolizes racing and the purple expresses the connection between the two. In the meantime, the violet has given way to a dark blue, and BMW Motorsport GmbH has been operating as BMW M GmbH since 1993. This has not changed anything in terms of the high symbolic power of the brand and logo. In the 50th year of its existence, the company is more successful than ever as the world market leader in the segment of performance and high-performance automobiles.

Their performance and high-performance automobiles are enjoying steadily growing popularity around the world, which will be cheered on with new product highlights in the anniversary year. The company will launch a BMW M2022 Touring for the first time in 3. In addition, particularly performance-oriented fans of the brand can look forward to a spectacular special model from the BMW M4 Coupé series. The successor to the successful BMW M2 is also already in an advanced phase of its series development process. At the same time, the electrification of the BMW M brand will continue to be driven forward. In the anniversary year, the first electrified high-performance model in the history of BMW M GmbH will be launched.

May 2022: Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este

BMW M GmbH will not only celebrate its milestone birthday with attractive new products, but also with numerous events. Anniversary appearances are planned for May 2022 at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on Lake Como in northern Italy and then also at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Great Britain and at the Concours d'Elegance in Pebble Beach, California. The 24-hour race at the Nürburgring is also a welcome opportunity for BMW M GmbH to review its own successful history together with the fans and to get them excited about the future of BMW M GmbH.
