BMW Group & AirConsole: Competition for gaming concepts in vehicles!

The BMW Group and AirConsole are launching a competition to develop games tailored to the in-vehicle experience. The companies rely on the potential of the global game developer community. Developers can pioneer in-car gaming by participating. The BMW Group and AirConsole want to promote the competition together at the Game Developer Conference (GDC) in San Francisco from March 20th to 24th. From now until June 8, 2023, developers can submit their game concepts via the competition's official website. The best four of the submitted game concepts will be selected.

The winners will each receive €5.000 to develop a prototype. If the prototype proves promising, AirConsole will fully fund the development of the game, which will then be included in the AirConsole platform. The winners will be invited to BMW Group headquarters in Munich to see the end result in action. Stefan Butz, Vice President BMW Group Development for Entertainment and Apps: “This competition is a great opportunity for game developers to work with AirConsole to develop immersive gaming experiences specifically for vehicles. We want to offer our customers first-class entertainment and gaming means pure enjoyment.”

Antti Makkonen, Director of Games at AirConsole, said: “At CES, the automotive industry showed that in-car gaming is a reality. Developers need to start not just putting games in cars, but developing them specifically for the car and the in-car environment. Using a smartphone as a controller in the car makes the gaming experience accessible to everyone – especially considering that not everyone owns a game controller and that playing games directly on the car’s touchscreen tires your arms very quickly.” The BMW Group decided about the BMW Startup Garage program for nDream - the company behind the AirConsole brand - as a partner to bring casual gaming into the vehicle.
