There are many elements that make a Bugatti so fascinating - precision, beauty, performance ... Everyone can make this list longer. And yet everything goes back to the heart of every modern Bugatti: the engine. With the Jacob & Co. x Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon presented in April 2020, the special Bugatti feeling that the iconic W16 engine triggers was transferred to a watch for the first time. Four new editions of the timepiece now represent the craftsmanship, dedication and skill that the Chiron embodies: the top class of the automotive industry meets the pinnacle of watchmaking.

With their maximum degree of complexity and extraordinary details, the four new Chiron Tourbillon watch editions embody Bugatti in every respect. All four versions have a breathtaking movement made up of 578 individual parts, which combine motor and clock design in an astonishing way. Under the generous sapphire crystal is a miniature engine block, which is modeled on the legendary 8,0-liter W16 engine and can be set in motion at the push of a button. The timepiece is driven by a flying tourbillon that is inclined by 30 degrees.

with new materials for personalization

The new versions of the Chiron Tourbillon have been further developed with new materials for ultimate personalization. Inspired by the flowing lines of the Chiron, the overall shape of this breathtaking timepiece is based on its automotive counterpart. The first option consists of a solid block of sapphire crystal with a sapphire crystal case back and sapphire crystal crowns and buttons. The masterpiece sits on the wrist with a rubber strap with a titanium clasp. The second option - limited to 72 pieces - has a case made of 18-carat rose gold with a special anti-reflective sapphire crystal, a visible case back, also made of 18-carat rose gold, and crowns and buttons made of black DLC titanium with a stamped Bugatti logo . This version includes a rubber strap with a black DLC titanium and 18-carat rose gold clasp.

Another variant, limited to 52 pieces, offers an 18-carat rose gold case set with sparkling white diamonds and anti-reflective sapphire crystal. The visible caseback, crowns and buttons are made of 18-carat rose gold, the latter also has white baguette diamonds and a punched Bugatti logo. This watch is held by a rubber strap with an 18-carat rose gold clasp set with white diamonds. The Chiron Tourbillon, with an 18-carat white gold case set with 391 black and white diamonds (approx. 20 carats), represents the ultimate definition of luxury. The 18-carat white gold case back is matched by crowns and buttons that are set with white baguette diamonds. The rubber strap and the 18-carat white gold clasp are set with 18 white diamonds (approx. 1,76 carats).

A Bugatti experience for the wrist

The animation of the legendary Bugatti engine begins as soon as the right crown of the timepiece is pressed. Just as the engine in the hyper sports car comes to life, the “crankshaft” made of solid steel - one of the smallest and most complicated individual watch parts ever made - rotates and the “pistons” pump up and down, mounting them at different angles are what further increases the complexity of the movement. Two “turbochargers” on the side of the engine block rotate while the drive train is running, adding to the overall spectacle.

The movement is held in position in four places by miniature shock absorbers in the style of the Chiron. As a result, it floats in the case and slight up and down movements of the clockwork can be observed. This suspension detail posed an additional challenge to the watch designers, who had to develop and patent a unique, automotive-inspired transverse system to ensure the crown pins were not damaged by movement in the case.

The crowns are located on the lower side of the case. The time is set with the left crown, the middle crown winds the movement for 60 hours of power reserve and animation, while the right crown starts the animation. The power reserve for animation and timekeeping are separate, but both are wound over the same crown - clockwise for the movement (60 hours), counterclockwise for the motor animation (approx. Three activations). The power reserve for the movement is even provided with a petrol pump symbol on the side of the display.

As an interpretation of a Bugatti icon, the timepiece naturally remains true to the Bugatti design DNA and also conveys its emotionality. In addition to the flying tourbillon with the Jacob & Co. logo, a subtle EB logo adorns the engine compartment, where the “crankshaft” holds 16 pistons that are just waiting to be set in motion. The tourbillon window is modeled on the horseshoe grille that is always an integral part of the design of the Bugatti hyper sports car. With the Jacob & Co. x Bugatti Chiron Tourbillon, for the first time in the world of watch manufacture, there is a seamless connection between hyper sports car and High quality watchmaking succeeded.
