Every hyper sports car from the French luxury brand has to withstand extraordinary quality requirements under all conditions, both in everyday life and on the racetrack. Bugatti therefore regularly tests its current and future models as part of series development on various test tracks. Once a year, the Bugatti development team sets out on the demanding circuit at the Nürburgring - recently with four models and six engineers.

+6.000 PS and 64 cylinders

It is the most exclusive vehicle fleet in the world, with a net value of almost 20 million euros: Centodieci (8 million euros), Divo (5 million euros), Chiron Pur Sport (3 million euros) and Chiron Super Sport 300+ ( 3,5 million euros). "We want to achieve the best possible chassis set-up for our customers, hence driving under extreme conditions as well as in everyday situations," says Lars Fischer, Head of Chassis Testing and Tuning at Bugatti.

Bugatti makes no difference between the Chiron5 or the small series, which is limited to just ten vehicles, such as the Centodieci. During the test drives, the engineers want the Centodieci to drive extremely precisely, quickly and perfectly in all situations.

the most demanding circuit in the world

The Nordschleife is the most demanding circuit in the world with an unusual topography and the ideal environment for it: 33 left turns and 40 right turns, 17 percent uphill and downhill slopes, a height difference of 300 meters and that over a length of 20,832 kilometers. Vehicles that circumnavigate this difficult circuit quickly and easily are perfectly matched. During the laps, the engineers pay attention to the overall impression of the vehicle and to ensure that it is perfectly differentiated within the performance spectrum of the Chiron family. After the journeys, the results are evaluated and transmitted to the development team in order to further optimize the handling process.

"Even with the small series Centodieci, we therefore undertake the same development and testing efforts as for the Chiron," explains Jachin Schwalbe, Head of Chassis Development at Bugatti. In other words: After extensive simulation and intensive drives on test stands and test sites, drives on circuits and on public roads follow in order to further optimize the handling properties and driving behavior.

With the Chiron Super Sport 300+, the developers check and verify the series tuning of the chassis that was finalized a few weeks ago. The hyper sports car with long tail, designed for longitudinal dynamics, was developed primarily for a top speed of up to 440 km / h. “Of course, the Chiron Super Sport 300+ also has to drive with high performance on narrow stretches,” explains Jachin Schwalbe.

The development engineers use the different characters and driving behavior of the current Divo and Chiron Pur Sport models as a reference for the new Centodieci and Chiron Super Sport 300+ - and can thus experience Bugatti's great "Spectrum of Performance" directly and compare them with one another.

Don't worry, of course that was far from being the case when it came to auto / auto tuning. Our magazine still has tens of thousands other tuning reports in stock. Do you want to see them all?
