Bentley Motorsport competes with a specially prepared Continental GT at the GP Ice Race 2020 in Zell am See. With the speed records set on ice in 2007 and 2011, the team around the Bentley Continental GT with W12 engine is ready to continue Bentley's tradition of outstanding performance on ice at the spectacular event in Austria on the weekend of February 1 and 2, 2020.

The Ice Race Continental GT will sport a racing livery that pays homage to the record-breaking vehicle from the 2019 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb race, which was fitted with the same W12-TSI series engine with twin turbochargers. The 6,0 liter engine offers 635 hp and a torque of 900 Nm. From a standing start, the vehicle reaches the 100 km / h mark in 3,7 seconds, the top speed is 333 km / h. The three-chamber air suspension system, the active 48-volt roll stabilization and the cast iron brakes will ensure that the Bentley Continental GT can always be easily controlled on the ice track.

Catie Munnings, a participant in the Junior World Rally Championship, will sit behind the wheel of the Bentley Continental GT in Zell am See. The winner of the Ladies Trophy of the European FIA Rally Championship, former presenter of the program "Catie's Amazing Machines", which was broadcast on CBeebies, the children's channel of the BBC, and daughter of the rally driver Chris Munnings will be the first woman in Bentley's recent history takes part in a Bentley Motorsport race. Munnings comments:

“I just had to take the opportunity to drive for Bentley in Zell am See. I am absolutely thrilled with the vehicle and still cannot believe that I can actually drive a Bentley in an ice race. I trained for a while with the vehicle on ice just before Christmas. At first I thought it would feel clumsy, but I was amazed at how dynamic it is and how sensitive and agile it reacts. It can dance like a light rally car and I can't wait to compete in such a legendary event. ”

Paul Williams, Motorsport Director at Bentley Motors, said:

“I drove the Continental GT on snow for the first time during the winter tests before it was launched. The stability and controllability that this vehicle shows on such surfaces is incredible. I'm looking forward to seeing the GT drive a race under these conditions. ”

The vehicle is based as closely as possible to the standard equipment - only minimal changes have been made to comply with the safety regulations, such as a rear roll cage, an integrated fire extinguishing system as well as racing seats and a racing belt system. Other modifications to the series vehicle include an increase to the regular chassis height for additional ground clearance, an expansion of the wheel arches, which allows the track width to be increased by 15 mm, Pirelli Scorpion studded tires, attached Lazer high-performance headlights and a custom-made exhaust system from Akrapovic, the Manufacturer of the custom-made exhaust system of the Continental GT. In addition, the vehicle will be equipped with a special roof rack with a Bomber for Bentley Centenary Edition ski pair.

The GP Ice Race offers two days of the finest motor sport under unpredictable conditions. This race is a new chapter in Bentley's long history of testing vehicles under the most extreme conditions. Various historic and modern racing and rally vehicles take part in this race, which was first held in 1937 and launched last year. All weekend there are races in different categories on a 600 m long ice track specially created in the snow, whereby the competitions are made up of two races: standard races and skijoring. At skijoring, a skier is pulled by a vehicle over a stretch of ice and snow, a discipline that goes back to the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz, when the skiers were pulled by riderless horses. Bentley's 2020 version will feature freestyle skier Sven Rauber and significantly more horsepower.
