A targeted modification of the front and rear design expresses the characteristic sportiness of the BMW 3 Series Sedan and the BMW 3 Series Touring more than ever. The BMW Operating System 8 including the BMW Curved Display makes your interior even more modern. All models in the new BMW 3 Series now come standard with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission with shift paddles on the steering wheel and a newly designed selector lever. Sporty, elegant design and agile driving characteristics have always made the BMW 3 Series the epitome of driving pleasure in the premium mid-size segment. At the same time, the series represents the core of the BMW brand. The new edition of the sports sedan, which has been successful for more than 45 years, and the touring model that was first presented 35 years ago, will hit the streets from July 2022. Both models are produced at the BMW Group plant in Munich. The new BMW 3 Series Sedan is also manufactured at the BMW Group plant in San Luis Potosí in Mexico. In addition, a model variant of the sedan designed for the Chinese automobile market is being built at the Tiexi plant in Shenyang, which is operated by the BMW Brilliance Automotive (BBA) joint venture.

Headlight & kidney in a new design!

With clearly designed surfaces, dynamic lines and large air intakes, the front apron contributes even more intensively to the sporty appearance of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring. In addition, the redesign of the headlights and the BMW kidney grille ensure an expressive presence. The standard full LED headlights are now much flatter, their clear contours and the daytime running light elements in the shape of an inverted L give them a harmonious and modern look.

Adaptive LED headlights are available as an option, which can be recognized by the blue accents on the inside. In the night design, a blue light show in the lower area of the insert also ensures a striking and high-quality appearance. The range of functions of the adaptive LED headlights includes the cornering light, the anti-dazzle matrix high beam as well as the dynamic headlight range control and the variable light distribution. With its slightly modified contours and new double slats, the BMW kidney grille is now even more powerful. Below the BMW kidney grille, the high-gloss black air intakes for cooling the brake system add a high-quality accent.

The rear apron of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring has a particularly high-quality appearance thanks to a higher proportion of surfaces painted in the vehicle color and its clear design. Horizontal lines, flat lighting units and flared rear wheel arches emphasize the width and solid stature of the rear. The tailpipes of the exhaust system now have a diameter of 90 or 100 millimeters, depending on the engine.

The focus on dynamism and modernity implemented in the exterior design is also reflected in the new structure of offers. Even with the standard equipment, the new BMW 3 Series has a strikingly sporty appearance. The standard M high-gloss Shadow Line now also underscores its sporty appearance. In addition, 17-inch light-alloy wheels are now standard equipment for all models of the BMW 3 Series Sedan.

As an option, the dynamic appearance can be enhanced with the M Sport package. It includes new design features, including the honeycomb pattern of the BMW kidney grille, a new design for the front and rear aprons, and new 18-inch M light-alloy wheels including mixed tires. The BMW Performance models from BMW M GmbH are also distinguished by their unique appearance. Its exclusive design features include not only the BMW kidney grille in mesh design, the M light-alloy wheels in the dimension 18 inches and optionally also 19 inches and the trapezoidal tailpipe covers now also M exterior mirror caps in high-gloss black.

The M Sport package Pro is offered as a new option for the first time. It is available as a supplement to the M Sport package and for the BMW Performance models and includes, among other things, an extended M high-gloss Shadow Line, the M Shadow Line lights and an M Sport brake system with red brake calipers. The retrofit options from the BMW M Performance Parts range offer individual options for emphasizing the dynamic character of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring even more intensively. The choice of exterior colors is supplemented by the variants Skyscraper Gray metallic and M Brooklyn Gray metallic in conjunction with the M Sport package. Also new to the range are the BMW Individual special paint finishes Frozen Pure Gray metallic and Frozen Tanzanite Blue metallic. There are also around 150 other BMW Individual special paint finishes to choose from.

The interior of the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and the new BMW 3 Series Touring is characterized by fundamental further development. The brand-typical driver orientation is reinterpreted by the standard BMW Curved Display. It consists of a 12,3-inch information display behind the steering wheel and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14,9 inches, which merge into a fully digital, high-resolution display unit. The modern cockpit design is characterized by advanced digitization and enables a significant reduction in buttons and controls in favor of voice and touch operation.

The gear selector of the 8-speed Steptronic transmission has also been redesigned. It is located on the control panel of the center console together with the start/stop button, the iDrive Controller and the buttons for the driving experience switch, parking brake and other vehicle functions.

3-zone air conditioning and navigation system now standard.

Automatic air conditioning with 3-zone control is part of the standard equipment in the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and in the new BMW 3 Series Touring. The air conditioning functions are regulated by voice or touch operation on the control display. In addition, the standard equipment has been expanded to include an automatically dimming interior mirror, the storage package and Park Distance Control (PDC) with sensors at the front and rear. In addition, all models now have the BMW Live Cockpit Plus including the BMW Maps navigation system on board.

Diverse drive portfolio, 8-speed Steptronic transmission now standard for all models.

The characteristic features of the BMW 3 Series also include the great variety in the drive portfolio. Highly efficient combustion engines with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology and electrification in the form of plug-in hybrid and 48-volt mild hybrid technology ensure an exemplary balance between driving pleasure and fuel consumption. There are three plug-in hybrid models to choose from for the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and four for the new BMW 3 Series Touring. Four petrol and four diesel engines each with four and six cylinders are also available. This also includes a four-cylinder petrol engine in which a manifold integrated into the cylinder head and a further developed charging system ensure optimized power delivery.

The top of the range is marked by two BMW Performance models from BMW M GmbH with particularly sporty characteristics. In this way, the BMW 3 Series covers a performance spectrum from 110 kW/150 hp to 275 kW/374 hp (combined fuel consumption: 8,7 – 1,8 l/100 km according to WLTP, CO₂-Emissions combined: 198 – 40 g/km according to WLTP; Information according to NEDC: – ). Mild hybrid technology helps the in-line six-cylinder petrol engine and the four diesel drives to deliver particularly spontaneous power delivery and increased efficiency.

In the new BMW 3 Series, all engines are combined with an 8-speed Steptronic transmission as standard. Its sporty characteristics are underscored by shift paddles on the steering wheel, which are also fitted as standard. An 8-speed Steptronic sports transmission is optionally available, which is characterized by particularly high shift dynamics, offers a launch control function for traction-optimized acceleration from a standing start and also supports particularly rapid intermediate sprints with the sprint function. BMW xDrive is standard equipment for the top models. The intelligent all-wheel drive is optionally available in conjunction with two petrol engines (BMW 3 Series Touring: one petrol engine) and two diesel engines, as well as with plug-in hybrid technology.

Large selection of driver assistance systems.

Comfort and safety can be further increased in the new BMW 3 Series with a large number of systems for automated driving and parking. The standard equipment includes, among other things, the front collision warning with brake intervention, which recognizes vehicles and pedestrians as well as cyclists, cruise control with braking function, Speed Limit Info with no-overtaking display, manual Speed Limit Assist and lane departure warning with lane return. Options include the lane change warning, the BMW Head-Up Display and the Driving Assistant Professional*, which includes the steering and lane guidance assistant and the active cruise control with stop & go function, automatic Speed Limit Assist, route control and traffic light recognition.

The range of functions of the optional Parking Assistant includes the reversing camera and the reversing assistant. In addition, the Parking Assistant Plus* with the functions Park View, Panorama View and Remote 3D View as well as the BMW Drive Recorder are optionally available.

The multi-sensory vehicle experience BMW iDrive introduced in the new BMW 3 Series with the latest generation of the BMW Operating System 8 operating system leads into the digital future with powerful networking and data processing as well as intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle. In addition to the BMW Curved Display, this is also ensured by the extended capabilities of the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant.

The My BMW app serves as a universal digital interface between the driver and the vehicle, and can also be used to charge the high-voltage battery of the plug-in hybrid models. In addition, in the new BMW 3 Series Sedan and in the new BMW 3 Series Touring, a personal eSIM designed for the new 5G mobile communications standard, the BMW ID for customizing the user experience and the further optimized smartphone integration with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ can be used. With the BMW ConnectedDrive Upgrades function, the new BMW 3 Series is always up to date with the latest software. The upgrades can include different content: from new services to improved vehicle functions.
