The BMW ALPINA B3 is one of the fastest of its kind. The sedan has a top speed of 303 km / h or 300 km / h for the touring variant. The remarkable power and torque characteristics of the bi-turbo engine are based on ingenious detailed solutions - especially in the area of ​​the turbocharger and the cooling system. Flow-optimized turbine housings make it possible, among other things, to effectively convert the exhaust gas energy into boost pressure even at low engine speeds. The optimization of the cross-sections in the intake air duct and a large intake silencer ensure excellent revving and pulling power. The ALPINA-specific cooling system ensures the thermal stability of the high-performance drive even under full load. It consists of a large-volume charge air cooler, enlarged cooling ventilation shafts and a powerful main cooling package with a 1.000 watt electric fan.

This is supplemented by two additional external coolers. Constructive optimizations in the underbody area ensure improved cooling of the transmission. The ALPINA stainless steel exhaust system reduces the exhaust back pressure to a minimum and takes into account the sporty character of the BMW ALPINA B3. The sound experience can be influenced by means of the exhaust flap control: Discreetly reserved in COMFORT mode or dynamic and robust in SPORT mode. The latest generation of the transmission offers a wide range of comfort and dynamic properties: two shift characteristics enable both comfortable and relaxed gear changes to be experienced in a sporty way.

The ALPINA-specific transmission software in conjunction with revised transmission mechatronics ensures shorter reaction and shift times so that the impressive pulling power of the BMW ALPINA B3 is present at all times when accelerating. For maximum sportiness, the driver can use the SWITCH-TRONIC switch buttons on the steering wheel to determine the gear changes in MANUAL mode. Optionally available are ergonomically optimized SWITCH-TRONIC shift paddles in matt black, milled from solid aluminum. Thanks to their ergonomic shape, these allow switching on the steering wheel using a wide range of grip positions. If the SPORT + setting is selected via the driving experience switch in this mode, the forced upshift is prevented in the engine speed limit range.

The intelligent networking of transmission, navigation and the radar of the active cruise control ensures increased energy efficiency.

The BMW Connected Shift function uses the navigation data to calculate a predictive shifting strategy based on the course of the road and the traffic situation. Four-piston fixed callipers with Ø 395 mm brake discs on the front axle, which also bring the 330 km / h fast BMW ALPINA B5 Bi-Turbo to a standstill, and floating calipers with Ø 345 mm brake discs on the rear axle develop excellent braking performance with sensitive control.

The brake booster has been specially adapted for the high drive power and ensures noticeable safety reserves. The brake calipers are painted in ALPINA blue and provided with white ALPINA lettering - a clear identification of the high-performance ALPINA brake system. The optionally available high-performance brake system with perforated lightweight composite brake discs and highly heat-resistant brake pads combines very sporty pedal feedback and a precise brake pressure point with high thermal load capacity.

The superior road holding of the BMW ALPINA B3 is largely determined by the wheel / tire combination specially developed for this model.
