A few months before its world premiere, the BMW i4 is currently completing the final phase of its driving dynamics testing. The focus is on the integrated application of all drive and chassis components. It ensures that the spontaneous power delivery of the electric motor goes hand in hand with handling that is precisely controllable in every situation, fascinating curve dynamics, optimized traction under all weather and road conditions and perfectly balanced driving comfort. The BMW Group's technology expertise in the areas of drivetrain and chassis resulting from decades of experience is used for this fine-tuning. It gives the new BMW i4 sophisticated premium characteristics and enables a driving experience that is unique in its competitive environment.

Excitingly relaxed: Sprinting with the BMW i4.

With a maximum output of up to 390 kW / 530 PS, the drive of the BMW i4 enables confident acceleration maneuvers. Four seconds are enough to reach 100 km / h from a standing start. Even more impressive than the pure sprinting ability is the driving behavior that can be experienced. A model-specific damper technology reduces the immersion movements of the body at the moment of starting, the actuator-related wheel slip limitation (ARB) developed by BMW guarantees optimum traction and perfect straight-line stability with its extremely fast and precise control even on slippery roads. This makes the catapult-like sprint in the new BMW i4 an exciting and carefree experience because it is not affected by drive slip or course corrections.

Fascinating acceleration is just one aspect of the superior performance characteristics that characterize the BMW i4. Its spontaneous reactions to every movement, not only of the accelerator pedal, but also of the steering and the brake pedal are characteristic. The prerequisites for this high level of agility and precision are already anchored in the vehicle concept of the BMW i4. The long wheelbase, large track widths, model-specific camber values, large wheels are just as much a part of it as the high torsional stiffness, the optimized aerodynamic properties of the body, the vehicle's low center of gravity and the balanced weight.

All of these parameters were taken into account in the integrated application of the drive and chassis components in order to guarantee typical BMW sportiness in every driving situation. The construction and coordination of the suspension and damping systems ensure optimum road contact at all times. The almost silent drive in connection with the sophisticated chassis technology gives the impression of an effortlessly floating vehicle, even at high speeds, which cannot be disturbed by uneven road surfaces or difficult traction conditions.

"The BMW i4 looks light and agile and at the same time solid and binding“, Says project manager David Alfredo Ferrufino Camacho. "With its sovereign straight-line stability and its high cornering stability, it seems to be stuck to the road. All electric vehicles can accelerate straight ahead quickly. But that's not enough for us at BMW."

In addition, the BMW i4 is easy to control even in highly dynamic driving situations. In addition to the neutral self-steering behavior and the powerful, precisely controllable brakes, the steering of the BMW i4 in particular contributes to this. It acts directly and with a high level of accuracy, provides the driver with precise feedback at all times and is not influenced by driving forces even during intensive acceleration or deceleration processes. Lane changes at high speeds are mastered with ease, the extensive insensitivity to disruptive forces due to uneven road surfaces and the speed-dependent Servotronic steering power assistance ensure relaxed driving on long journeys.

The distinctive driving dynamics of the BMW i4 also mean that its performance properties are not achieved at the expense of driving comfort. The purely electrically powered Gran Coupé is characterized by its unrestricted suitability for everyday use. The BMW i4, whose high-voltage battery with the latest battery cell technology enables a range of up to 600 kilometers (WLTP), also offers chassis technology designed for high long-distance comfort. It is based on the high-quality damper technology used in the BMW 3 Series and BMW 4 Series, supplemented by model-specific components and coordinated independently. This effectively reduces structural vibrations caused by uneven road surfaces and in curves. The model-specific fine-tuning of the suspension and damping makes a significant contribution to the harmonious driving characteristics of the BMW i4.

In parallel to the final calibration drives, preparations for the start of production at the BMW Group plant in Munich are ongoing.
