Adaptive KW DDC coilover kit for BMW i4 eDrive40 Gran Coupé!

The adaptive KW DDC plug-and-play coilover kit is now available for the electric BMW i4 eDrive40 (G26) Gran Coupé with optional adaptive M suspension. During installation, the series struts are replaced with the KW coilover struts made of stainless steel. Then the series plugs are connected to the KW DDC suspension, the headlight range adjustment and the rear axle height adjustment adjusted and the axle remeasured - the retrofitting to the modern, semi-active KW coilover suspension is done. The BMW on-board electronics immediately recognize the DDC dampers and adapt them to the current driving situation. Basically, the KW DDC plug-and-play coilover kit for the BMW i4 eDrive40 (G26) is based on the same technology that KW uses in the original equipment of the electric hypercars Rimac Nevera. The parts certificate included in the scope of delivery covers a stepless lowering of 20 to 40 millimeters on the front axle and 15 to 35 millimeters on the drive axle. The KW DDC plug-and-play coilover kit is available from €1.500. More at www.kwsuspensions.de

The suspension manufacturer KW automotive is one of the first coilover suspension manufacturers that has been developing adaptive suspensions for retrofitting vehicles with electronically adjustable dampers for over ten years. The semi-active KW DDC plug-and-play coilover kits are available for more than 150 vehicles. KW has now also completed the DDC development for the fully electric BMW i4 eDrive40 (G26) Gran Coupé.

Adaptive chassis retrofit made easy

Since the valves used in the KW DDC coilover kit are recognized by the most common chassis control systems in the automotive industry, the various driving dynamics programs of the respective car manufacturer remain active. With the BMW i4 eDrive40 Gran Coupé, the KW DDC plug-and-play coilover struts made of stainless steel simply replace the M struts. The damper control takes over completely the BMW standard electronics. Within milliseconds, the electromagnetic valves respond to the respective control command from the series sensors. "With the uncomplicated installation of a KW DDC plug-and-play coilover kit, the standard damper control does not have to be deactivated as with the retrofitting of conventional sports suspension kits," explains Florian Johann from KW Brand Management. "The various KW DDC plug-and-play coilover kits always have the plugs that are compatible with the respective car manufacturer. These are connected to the original series connector. It is not necessary to teach the adaptive KW coilover kit or to intervene in the BMW control software."

As usual with the optional BMW M sports suspension, the various driving modes of the electric BMW can also be selected from the cockpit. In Comfort mode, the adaptive chassis confidently dampens bumps in the road without the BMW i4 eDrive40 (G26) Gran Coupé, which weighs more than two tons, losing cornering stability. Thanks to the KW coilover struts on the front axle, the 340 hp electric car also gains direct handling. Ride comfort is also maintained in the other modes of the semi-active suspension. "It's even more comfortable on bumpy roads than the conventional i4 standard chassis without adaptive dampers," Florian Johann continues. "In sport mode, the heavy electric car becomes a typical BMW athlete and remains comfortable even over long distances." With the KW DDC plug-and-play coilover suspension, basically only the lowering has to be set manually when installing the suspension.

By retrofitting the DDC coilover kit, the front axle can be continuously lowered from 20 to 40 millimeters and the drive axle can be lowered from 15 to 35 millimeters via a KW link rod. The adaptive optional M air suspension system including damping on the drive axle remains on board when converting to the KW DDC plug-and-play coilover suspension in the BMW i4 eDrive40 (G26) Gran Coupé. "We can't yet say whether the conversion to the KW coilover kit in the BMW i4, as repeatedly reported by the community, will also increase the range, as with the Tesla Model 3," Florian Johann continues. The KW DDC plug-and-play coilover kit is now available everywhere in the independent aftermarket for €1.500. The first BBS alloy wheel sets for the all-electric BMW i4 eDrive40 (G26) Gran Coupé are about to be launched.
