Finally: The BMW M3 comes as a G81 Power Touring!

How about an extra-large and highly variable luggage compartment in a high-performance sports car? What is now a rhetorical question becomes a concrete offer. A few weeks before the world premiere of the new BMW M3 Sedan, there are indications of a previously unattainable variety of models in the range of BMW M automobiles for the premium mid-range. The new BMW M3 Sedan will celebrate its world premiere together with the new BMW M4 Coupé in September 2020. It is also no secret that the new edition of the BMW M4 Convertible will follow next year. However, attentive observers will soon be able to see the prototype of a new high-performance automobile. In Garching near Munich, home of BMW M GmbH, work is being carried out on another dream that will come true: for the first time in the history of BMW M GmbH, the model range is being expanded to include a BMW M3 Touring.

M typical performance in touring

Typical M performance combined with the expanded space and the intelligent functionality of a touring model - that was previously reserved for the BMW M5 alone. In the second generation in 1992 and in the fourth generation in 2007, the high-performance business sedan was accompanied by a Touring. This is not the first time that the M Community has been fascinated by the idea of transferring this vehicle concept to the BMW M3. A corresponding prototype was created exactly 3 years ago based on the third generation of the BMW M20. The goal at the time to demonstrate the high flexibility and seamless integration of high-performance sports cars with specific body features in the production process of the BMW 3 Series Touring was achieved. In the sixth generation of the BMW M3, it will not stop at theoretical considerations and production-technical test series.

6-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo engine

The 6-cylinder M TwinPower Turbo engine is set under the bonnet. 5 doors and a highly variable luggage compartment are exactly what fans of this model have been waiting for for a long time. As a fourth model variant, the BMW M3 Touring fulfills the hopes of all those who want to push the typical M interplay of racing-oriented performance and everyday usability to the extreme. There has never been more driving fun and precision in a premium mid-range station wagon. No more functional utility in a thoroughbred sports car either. You can continue to speculate about engine and driving performance. Wide axles, unmistakably large air inlets at the front and four exhaust tailpipes at the rear leave no room for doubt that the iconic M DNA can also be fully experienced in the new bodywork.

BMW M3 Touring currently in the early phase

The first BMW M3 Touring is still in the early stages of its roughly two-year series development process. As with other BMW M high-performance sports cars, the same applies to the BMW M3 Touring: Once the prototype has received the “Go” for test driving on public roads, this is the decisive step on the way to series production. Because not only there he will soon be seen regularly. As for all other BMW M models, the intensive testing and tuning program for the BMW M3 Touring also takes place on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring. After all, the first BMW M3 Touring is primarily a BMW M3. If we receive more information in a timely manner, there will of course be an update for this report.
