The model offensive marking the 3th anniversary of BMW M GmbH is being continued with the fourth body variant in the BMW M4 and BMW M50 series, following the sedan, coupe and convertible. The venue for the world premiere of the BMW M3 Touring is the Goodwood Festival of Speed in June 2022. Orders can be placed from September 2022, the market launch of the BMW M3 Touring will start flowing in from the start of production in November 2022. It will be produced together with the BMW M3 Sedan in the BMW Group Plant Munich.

With the first BMW M3 Touring, the typical M combination of dynamics, agility and precision is consistently implemented with unrestricted suitability for everyday use and long-distance journeys. An extravagant exterior design clearly accentuates the individual vehicle concept. It ensures a clear differentiation within the series and a dynamic appearance that is unique in the competitive environment.

Clearly designed surfaces and athletic shapes signal the outstanding performance potential of the BMW M3 Touring, as do the M-specific design features, which are consistently geared towards the functional requirements in terms of cooling air flow and aerodynamic balance. These include, above all, the vertically aligned, frameless BMW kidney grille, the large side air intakes, the powerfully modeled wheel arches and the wide side skirts, which together with the front and rear apron attachments form a band that runs around the entire vehicle and is finished in high-gloss black. The M gills on the front side walls and the pairs of tailpipes of the exhaust system integrated on the right and left in the rear apron are also characteristic.

Regardless of the exterior color chosen, the roof of the BMW M3 Touring comes in high-gloss black as standard. The standard roof rails and the model-specific air deflector element mounted on the roof spoiler and known as the Gurney are also painted in the same colour. A roof in the body color and an M Carbon exterior package are optionally available.

In-line six-cylinder engine with high-speed characteristics.

The version of the in-line six-cylinder engine with M TwinPower Turbo technology developed for the Competition models in the series generates a maximum output of 375 kW/510 hp and a maximum torque of 650 Nm. The 3,0-litre engine is characterized by its typical M high-revving characteristics and its linear power delivery that continues up to high load ranges. It also forms the basis for the drive unit of the new BMW M4 GT3 long-distance racing car. The cooling system and oil supply are designed for particularly high longitudinal and lateral acceleration values when used on the racetrack. The M-specific exhaust system with electrically controlled flaps enriches the performance experience with a particularly emotional drive sound.

The engine transmits its drive torque to an 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic, which offers a choice of three shift programs and can be operated using shift paddles on the steering wheel. The power is transferred to the road via the M xDrive all-wheel drive system, which is combined with an Active M differential in the rear axle drive. The need-based distribution of the drive torque to all four wheels optimizes traction as well as the agility and driving stability of the BMW M3 Competition Touring with M xDrive, which accelerates from a standstill to 3,6 km/h in 100 seconds.

It takes 200 seconds to sprint from zero to 12,9 km/h. The electronic limit for the top speed can be raised from 250 to 280 km/h with the optional M Driver's Package. In addition to the basic 4WD setting, the driver can use the Setup menu to select the 4WD Sport mode, in which the rear-wheel-focused design of the M xDrive system is felt even more intensively. When the driving stability control DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) is deactivated, the 2WD mode for pure rear-wheel drive is also available.

Ideal balance of performance and long-distance comfort.

Suspension technology tailored to both the performance characteristics of the drive and the specific vehicle concept of the BMW M3 Touring ensures an ideal balance of sporty performance and supreme driving comfort in everyday life and on long journeys. It was refined in detail during intensive test drives on racetracks as well as on country roads and in city traffic. Agility, dynamics and precision benefit from the high torsional rigidity of the body structure and the chassis connection. It is additionally optimized by model-specific underfloor struts and luggage compartment reinforcement.

Both the double-joint spring strut front axle and the five-link rear axle have M-specific kinematics and combine lightweight construction with particularly high rigidity. An adaptive M suspension with electronically controlled shock absorbers is also part of the standard equipment of the BMW M3 Touring, as is the M Servotronic steering with variable ratio. The integrated braking system enables two characteristic curves to be displayed for the pedal feel. As an alternative to the standard M compound brake system, an M carbon-ceramic brake system is available as special equipment.

The standard equipment also includes forged M light-alloy wheels measuring 19 inches at the front and 20 inches at the rear, which can be optionally combined with track tires. The DSC driving stability control has wheel slip limitation integrated into the engine control. In addition to the M Dynamic Mode, the M Traction Control function is also available as standard in the BMW M3 Touring. In the 2WD mode of the M xDrive, the driver can vary the intervention thresholds of the wheel slip limiter in ten stages in order to carefully approach the limits of physical driving when cornering dynamically on the racetrack.

Racing feeling in the cockpit, high variability in the rear.

With the BMW Curved Display, standard from the outset in the BMW M3 Touring, the cockpit design, which is geared towards a concentrated performance experience, is reinterpreted. The fully digital display network consists of a 12,3-inch information display and a control display with a screen diagonal of 14,9 inches, which are arranged behind a common pane of glass tilted towards the driver. The information display behind the steering wheel shows all driving-relevant information in a modern graphic format and in the M-specific style. M-specific widgets with information about the vehicle setup and the condition of the tires can be displayed on the Control Display's home screen. A BMW Head-Up Display, also with M-specific displays, is available as an option.

Electrically adjustable M sports seats including memory function and seat heating as well as Merino leather upholstery are standard equipment for the BMW M3 Touring. The optional M carbon bucket seats for the driver and front passenger create a unique symbiosis of racing feeling, lightweight construction, luxurious workmanship and long-distance comfort. The use of carbon-fibre-reinforced plastic (CFRP) in the structural elements of the seat and backrest, as well as openings in the area of the side bolsters and below the headrests, result in a weight reduction of 9,6 kilograms compared to the standard M sports seats.

There are three full-size seats in the rear of the BMW M3 Touring. The rear seat backrest is split 40:20:40. By folding down some or all of the elements, the storage volume can be increased from 500 to 1 liters as required. Automatic tailgate operation and the rear window that can be opened separately are standard equipment. A storage compartment under the load compartment floor offers space for the luggage compartment cover and the partition net. Automatically extending anti-slip rails are optionally available. They prevent luggage from slipping in dynamic driving situations.

M Drive Professional and BMW Maps navigation system as standard.

The standard comfort equipment of the BMW M3 Touring includes 3-zone automatic air conditioning, the BMW Live Cockpit Plus including navigation system BMW Maps, the ambient light, the hi-fi loudspeaker system as well as the interior and exterior mirror package. There is also a wide range of systems for automated driving and parking. The front collision warning, the Speed Limit Info function with no-overtaking display, the lane departure warning and Park Distance Control are on board as standard. Among other things, the Driving Assistant Professional including steering and lane guidance assistant, active cruise control with stop & go function, traffic light recognition and active navigation guidance as well as the Parking Assistant with reversing assistant are optionally available.

The M-specific operating system includes the setup button for direct access to the setting options for the engine, chassis, steering, brake system and M xDrive. Two complete vehicle setups can be saved and called up using the M buttons on the steering wheel. The M Drive Professional system, which is also standard, includes the M Traction Control, the M Drift Analyzer and the M Laptimer. The activities of the driver assistance systems and the information in the information display and in the head-up display can be influenced with the M Mode button on the center console. The settings ROAD, SPORT and TRACK are available in the BMW M3 Touring.

BMW Operating System 8

Advanced digitization represents the vehicle experience BMW iDrive of the latest generation in the BMW M3 Touring. It is based on the BMW Operating System 8 and was designed with the BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant and the BMW Curved Display for intuitive interaction between driver and vehicle using natural language and touch operation. The new BMW iDrive enables personalization with the BMW ID and the My BMW app as well as the use of a personal eSIM in the vehicle. Smartphone integration for Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ is also part of the standard equipment. A 5G-capable antenna system ensures optimized connectivity.
