"The development work on the BMW M4 GT3 is now on the home straight, and the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring is the perfect stage to present the vehicle in its BMW M Motorsport design and thus herald the final spurt up to the first races", says Markus Flasch, Managing Director of BMW M GmbH. “The new BMW M4 Competition provides the perfect basis for the BMW M4 GT3, whose engine was designed for use on the racetrack from the start.

This underlines how road and racing vehicle development always go hand in hand at BMW M GmbH. The new vehicle offers state-of-the-art technology, also thanks to our technology partners. They are among the best in their respective fields, and we are very pleased that they are supporting us in the development of the BMW M4 GT3 with their special know-how and with their components. That is the perfect basis for a successful new racing car. "

go through many stages of development

The BMW M2020 GT4 has gone through many stages of development since the beginning of 3. This began virtually with CAD and CFD simulations, and continued with the use of the engine on the test bench, the construction of the test body and work in the wind tunnel. The rollout on July 18, 2020 was a milestone. Numerous test drives followed on different racetracks, in which many different BMW works drivers made their valuable contribution. In December 2020, Philipp Eng (AUT) presented the steering wheel of the BMW M4 GT3 developed together with FANATEC as part of the BMW SIM Live Event. It is the first in the world that can be used in both the real racing vehicle and the simulator without modifications.

Test work continued in Monteblanco (ESP), Almeria (ESP) and on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife (GER) in 2021. There are currently more than 14.000 test kilometers - that corresponds to more than 70 hours of route time - to book. Over the distance, the BMW M Motorsport engineers worked intensively on drivability and reliability on the way to optimal racing maturity. The goal: a significant reduction in runtime costs and maintenance effort compared to the previous model. Following the presentation and the race premiere in June, both further test and races are on the agenda before the BMW M4 GT3 will be delivered to the first customers, who will start with it worldwide in 2022.

Drivability, cost efficiency, handling improved

The successor to the BMW M6 GT3 offers the greatest advances in three areas: drivability, cost efficiency and handling. The driving behavior and cockpit equipment of the BMW M4 GT3 are also more pleasant for amateur drivers, the vehicle has less tire wear and is more consistent. Significantly lower running costs and longer maintenance intervals for the engine and transmission are decisive economic factors. Handling is made much easier by the fact that many basic settings can be made directly on the steering wheel without having to connect an external laptop.
