No question, the sixth generation of the BMW M5 in the form of the F90 (since 2017) is once again the absolute benchmark in the category of performance sedans. The Munich shows the Audi RS6, the Mercedes AMG E63 or even that Cadillac CTS-V impressive where the proverbial "hammer hangs". But the quantum leap compared to the predecessor is in our opinion less clear than before. While the first generation E28 (1985–1987) and its successor E34 with a six-cylinder in-line engine were still quite similar, there were constant quantum leaps from then on with the M5. 1995 was the S38B38 with 340 PS of E34 history and it came with the third generation as E39 M5 the 400 PS strong S62B50 V8 vacuum cleaner used.
This did its job until 2003 and then became strong through the legendary 507 PS S85B50- high-speed ten-cylinder 4 generation (E60 M5) replaced. And then there was 2011 S63T V8 BiTurbo with 4,4 liters displacement and a maximum of 600 hp (M5 "30 years of M5") in the fifth M5 attempt as the F10 model series. With the now presented sixth generation of the M5 (F90), the S63B44TÜ has basically only been revised and as S63B44Tx transplanted into the new one. Of course, everything is better but the quantum leap in our opinion no longer exists.
Even less if you put the "old" something under pressure. That's exactly what the team at Edo Competition made in this vehicle and increases the power to 620 PS and 790 NM torque, and thus to the level of the 625 PS & 750 NM strong M5 Competition (from 07/2018). And also optically something has changed because the body got a complete wrapping in gray matt and the rims were painted glossy black.
Add a set of lowering springs and the proverbial "wolf in sheep's clothing" is ready, its biggest disadvantage compared to the current model, where only the lack of all-wheel drive is.
