650 NM & 510 PS in the new BMW X3 M / X4 M Competition

BMW M GmbH is refreshing the high-performance models of the Sports Activity Vehicle BMW X3 and the Sports Activity Coupé BMW X4 two years after their introduction. In addition to new design features that have been adopted from the BMW X3 and BMW X4, which have also been revised, M-specific changes and a new operating concept, the new BMW X3 M Competition and the new BMW X4 M Competition offer even more power. The 50 Nm to 650 Nm maximum torque of the most powerful in-line six-cylinder petrol engine from BMW with 375 kW / 510 hp, which is now also used in other BMW M models, enables, among other things, 0,3 seconds to 3,8 seconds Seconds improved time in the standard sprint from 0 to 100 km / h.

Easy to turn and with motorsport know-how.

The BMW X3 M Competion and the BMW X4 M Competition are therefore on par with high-performance sports cars. The top speed is electronically limited to 250 km / h. In conjunction with the optional M Driver's Package, this limit is increased to 285 km / h. The market launch of the new models will begin in August 2021. The in-line six-cylinder engine of the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition now has the forged lightweight crankshaft of the BMW M3 and M4 models. With its extremely torsion-resistant design, it enables the transmission of the particularly high torque and, thanks to its low weight and reduced rotating masses, also promotes the engine's freedom of rotation.

The race track-proven cooling system of the in-line six-cylinder engine takes into account the extraordinarily high performance of the drive and includes two coolers positioned on the side in addition to the central one. An additional engine oil cooler and a separate transmission oil cooler are also used. The motorsport know-how of BMW M GmbH is also evident in the conception of the oil supply, which is designed for dynamic racetrack operation. The engine's weight-optimized oil pan has two separate chambers and an integrated suction channel. An additional suction stage enables the map-controlled oil pump to deliver lubricant from the smaller oil sump, which serves as a volume buffer. In this way, a safe oil supply is guaranteed at all times, even with extreme longitudinal and lateral accelerations.

M sports exhaust system and 8-speed M Steptronic transmission.

The standard M sports exhaust system of the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition enriches the drive sound characteristic of BMW M automobiles with a pronounced sonorous note, especially under intense load conditions and at high engine speeds, and sharpens the sound with unrestricted everyday usability for a particularly emotional driving experience Motorsport too. The steplessly regulated flaps of the M sports exhaust system allow a very varied sound development.

The 8-speed M Steptronic transmission with Drivelogic takes over the power transmission of the high-performance engine as standard. In addition to fully automatic gear changes, it also enables manual shifting with sequential gear selection. In addition to the new M gear selector switch in the center console, there are also shift paddles on the steering wheel. In the manual operating mode, multiple downshifts down to the lowest drivable gear are possible in order to use the engine drag torque for braking. When accelerating, no forced upshift is triggered even when the engine is turned down.

M xDrive all-wheel drive system with a rear-wheel design.

The M xDrive all-wheel-drive system also contributes to the high agility of the BMW X3 M Competition and BMW X4 M Competition. It combines the traction advantages of power transmission to all four wheels with the proven dynamic qualities of classic rear-wheel drive. The electronically controlled M xDrive, networked with the driving stability control DSC (Dynamic Stability Control), only transfers part of the drive torque to the front axle when the rear wheels have reached the limits of their power transmission capabilities. At the touch of a button, the driver can influence not only the mode of operation of the driving stability control but also the distribution of the drive torque between the front and rear wheels. The centrally controlled interaction of the M xDrive all-wheel-drive system with the active M differential ensures a loss-free transmission of engine power.

M typically superior driving dynamics.

650 NM & 510 PS in the new BMW X3 M / X4 M Competition

The BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition have exceptional driving dynamics potential. Outstanding values in the areas of longitudinal and lateral acceleration, handling and deceleration performance go hand in hand with high driving stability, neutral self-steering behavior and comfort properties suitable for everyday use and long journeys. The basis for this combination of agility, dynamism and precision, which is typical of BMW M automobiles, is a chassis technology that is perfectly matched to the high engine output and the M xDrive all-wheel drive. The standard Adaptive M suspension with specific tuning and electronically controlled dampers ensures both a high level of everyday comfort and extremely direct contact with the road with little wheel and body movements.

650 NM & 510 PS in the new BMW X3 M / X4 M Competition

The ideal damper forces for the respective driving situation are set individually and continuously via electromagnetically controlled, internal valves. The basic characteristics of the damper can be influenced by pressing a button. The steering precision and responsiveness are based on extensive measures to stiffen the body and the chassis connection, for example with an M-specific strut package. The electromechanical M Servotronic steering and the driving stability control DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) also contribute to the typical M driving experience. This allows additional wheel slip in M Dynamic Mode in order to generate the typical M self-steering behavior and, for example, to enable controlled drifting maneuvers when used on the racetrack.

M compound braking system and 21-inch wheels as standard.

The performance characteristics of the BMW X3 M Competition and the BMW X4 M Competition are complemented by the high effectiveness of the standard M Compound braking system. The brake callipers bear the M logo and are painted in blue as standard or, on request, in high-gloss black or red. The perfectly coordinated overall package for maximum performance also includes the 21-inch wheels with mixed tires in the formats 255/40 ZR21 at the front and 265/40 ZR21 at the rear. The M forged wheel 892M star spoke in jet black is new, which saves 2 kg of weight per wheel. Alternatively, the well-known M light alloy wheel 765M V-spoke is also available in jet black with a high-sheen finish.
