Project Rockstar - BMW X8 M Hybrid with over 700 PS?

Project Rockstar - BMW X8 M Hybrid with over 700 PS?

It's hard to believe that BMW would like to add one more to the huge X7 (G07)! But with the X8, that actually seems to be a reality. And the giant SUV apparently even has a really cool in-house code. It's called according to the British car magazine Coach apparently "Project Rockstar". This is proof again, the internal code names are often much cooler than the final model names. An X8 will come and it looks like, in contrast to the X7, even as a full-fledged M version. Along with the X3 M and X4 M as well as the X5 M and X6 M it would be the fifth performance model from M-GmbH with more ground clearance. The X8 M will also appear with the well-known 4,4-liter twin-turbo V8 (S63B44T4), which could, however, be supported by a 200-hp electric motor. At least that's what the Autocar claims. But why doesn't the X7 get such a setup as the X7 M? Maybe because the empty weight could then go in the direction of 3 (!!!) tons? After all, an X7 M50i already weighs almost 2,6 tons.

the curb weight could be a problem

With the X8, BMW will certainly also rely on the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, but we cannot really imagine the disengageable front axle here. Autocar supposedthat the plug-in hybrid could have an output of up to 750 hp and that the X8 as an M model would be the most powerful production BMW of all time. But the problem with the total mass also applies to the X8. Even he will hardly weigh less than 2,6 tons (it's probably even heavier) and additional electric motors including batteries could drive the empty weight even higher. It is highly likely that we will not receive an answer before the end of 2021 and, with regard to an M variant, not before the year 2023. If we get more information about the BMW X8 or X8 M (G08?), There is of course an update for this report. You will be informed of this if you simply use ours Feed subscribed.
